Requirements
  • A Master's degree in a related discipline such as health informatics, data analytics, health information management, or a similar field is required.
  • Five years of experience in healthcare working in health informatics capacities and/or higher education work settings is required.
  • Experience using technologies including health information systems, electronic health records, clinical information systems, clinical decision-support systems, or similar systems is required.
  • Experience working with health data is required.
  • Communication, strategic planning, attention to detail, multitasking, problem solving, leadership, and proficiency with information systems and technology are required.
  • A curriculum vitae or resume and cover letter are required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, revise, and teach in-person and online health informatics courses for undergraduate and graduate audiences.
  • Supplement course delivery with timely insight into industry expectations, practices, and norms.
  • Set up and update courses in learning management systems in accordance with Health Information Management departmental standards.
  • Conduct consistent assessments of learning and use tools such as rubrics for objective scoring.
  • Evaluate students according to course syllabus criteria and align grading with established policies.
  • Support students and refer them to appropriate resources.
  • Partner with adjunct faculty and the department chair to ensure adjunct-taught health informatics course sections adhere to and remain in compliance with accreditation requirements.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders.
  • Participate in committee work or special projects in the Department of Health Information Management, School of Health Professions, University of Kansas Medical Center, and/or the industry, as determined by the Department Chair.
  • Assist with graduate student advising and scholarly projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree is preferred.
  • Higher education experience, including on-campus and online teaching and participation in curriculum development, is preferred.
  • Experience with online course technologies such as learning management systems and lecture capture systems is preferred.
  • Evidence of previous scholarship, such as article publication and/or research, is preferred.
  • Professional service to the health informatics profession through associations such as AMIA, HIMSS, or AHIMA is preferred.
