Crete PA partners with the non-attest arms of US accounting firms to help them grow while keeping the local firm’s brand, leadership, and culture. It provides centralized back-office support—such as talent acquisition, human resources, finance, legal and compliance, technology, and business development—through subsidiary entities that handle tax and advisory services, while partner CPA firms perform audits. The network comprises more than 20 partner firms with over $300 million in combined annual revenue, and Crete PA takes majority stakes with original owners retaining minority equity. The company plans to expand through acquisitions and by using AI tools, backed by Thrive Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners, with the goal of building a nationwide accounting platform that offers capital and shared resources instead of selling or staying under-resourced.

  • Current now spans nearly 30 firms, 2,000 employees, and over $500 million revenue.
  • Adeptus and RRBB keep acquiring tuck-ins in 2026, proving platform growth momentum.

What critics are saying

Crete Professionals Alliance rebrands as Current, cuts tax prep time by 31% with AI across 7,000 returns

Crete Professionals Alliance has rebranded as Current, a national platform supporting independent accounting firms with nearly 2,000 employees across 30 US firms and over $500 million in annual revenue, ranking among the top 30 accounting firms nationwide. Current provides partner firms with shared services, technology and resources whilst allowing them to retain equity, leadership and local branding. Through its partnership with Thrive Holdings and OpenAI, the company launched Tax AI, which processed 7,000 tax returns last season with 98% accuracy and reduced preparation time by 31%. The platform aims to enable independent firms to compete with large incumbents by providing Fortune 500-calibre advisory services to Main Street businesses. Backed by long-term investors, Current's structure allows sustained investment in technology and employee development focused on topline growth rather than cost extraction.
