Requirements
  • A Master's degree is required.
  • Evidence of experience with instructional design, professional training, or academic teaching and delivery of engaging training for experienced adult learners, including demonstrated dynamic and interactive instruction capabilities.
  • Evidence of substantive expertise and recognition as an expert on the Caribbean country or region through teaching, professional training, university instruction, published works, media appearances, or similar experience.
  • Ability to work independently under deadline pressure, collaborate with diverse teams, and liaise effectively with State Department and U.S. government personnel for course inputs.
  • Ability to provide print-ready course materials that are free of grammatical errors and consistently formatted using NFATC-provided templates.
  • Availability to fulfill the pre-established course schedule according to NFATC requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Advanced familiarity with online and remote learning platforms, specifically Zoom.
  • Fluency in English.
Responsibilities
  • Manage, organize, and conduct the course remotely or in person as required by the customer.
  • Ensure course delivery adheres to Area Studies instructional design and delivery pillars and responds to technical guidance from the Area Studies Chair and leadership.
  • Ensure course materials use NFATC-provided templates and branding formats for a consistent classroom experience across the Division.
  • Deliver substantive lecture presentations in areas of expertise and substitute for scheduled speakers or activities when unforeseen circumstances prevent them from being presented.
  • Introduce guest lecturers, lead class discussions, and present study materials.
  • Deliver the course using dynamic facilitation and instruction techniques, including presentations, facilitated class discussions, group exercises, self-study, reading materials, and other appropriate teaching methodologies.
  • Identify qualified guest speakers from government, academic, diplomatic, and business fields for Chair approval, and manage and invite speakers who may receive an honorarium.
  • Maintain course materials, including PowerPoint presentations, with up-to-date information before each course delivery.
  • Meet with the Area Studies Chair for planning and after-action reviews of recent courses and discuss course planning and revisions.
  • Coordinate with Area Studies support staff to ensure the online classroom is set up and adequately programmed and resourced.
  • Ensure course evaluations are electronically distributed by the NFATC Program Coordinator and encourage students to complete them.
  • Ensure student learning is assessed through testing.
Desired Qualifications
  • A PhD is preferred.
  • Experience designing and delivering online courses is an advantage.
  • Fluency in the local language is desirable.
