Requirements
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a similar area is required.
  • Two years of experience working with preschool and/or kindergarten-aged students is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with database applications are required.
  • Knowledge of various pedagogies and child development principles is required.
  • Knowledge of cultural flexibility, competency in working with multicultural participants, and experience working with inner-city and unchurched youth are required.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and independently, manage time, stay organized, think logically, adapt to changing organizational and community needs, and complete assigned projects independently is required.
  • Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law clearances and background checks are required, including PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and PA DHS Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
  • Completion of Pennsylvania-approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training is required before employment.
  • Understanding and support of The Salvation Army's mission are required.
  • A valid National Sex Offender Registry Clearance is required.
  • A TB test and health physical meeting DHS compliance for licensed School Age Centers are required.
  • Completion of 10 hours of Health and Safety Training upon hire is required.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Training are required.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate and, at times, plan lessons for participants in the Kindergarten Readiness program.
  • Foster a classroom atmosphere that promotes student growth and maintains high academic and developmental standards.
  • Provide participants with a safe and enjoyable environment in which to learn and play.
  • Model honest and positive behaviors and practices.
  • Prepare curriculum for and instruct youth ages 4 and 5.
  • Track student progress using the provided assessment tools and schedule in consultation with the supervisor and Kindergarten Readiness consultant.
  • Prepare a summary report at the completion of the program detailing program results.
