Job Description
Block is seeking an experienced employment attorney with a passion for all things employment to join our Legal organization. You will report to the Head of Employment Legal, and provide advice and counseling across a broad spectrum of employment law issues in the US, and internationally.
You Will:
- Provide advice and counseling on employment topics including recruiting, DEI, internal investigations, internal communications, performance management, leaves of absence, accommodations, wage and hour, pay equity, terminations, reorganizations, redundancy, and role eliminations.
- Investigate and respond to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints, audits, and other employment-related inquiries.
- Advise on the employment aspects of special projects, such as corporate reorganizations, restructuring, and M&A (including performing and/or responding to due diligence).
- Develop and conduct training for employees, managers, and the People team.
- Keep up-to-date on employment laws and provide timely and proactive updates to stakeholders.
- Conduct audits, employment classification reviews, and support other compliance efforts.
- Collaborate with team members and manage projects with a collaborative approach.
- Evaluate employment practices and policies.
- Draft and review employment related agreements and templates.
- Manage outside counsel on employment matters.
Qualifications
You Have:
- J.D. degree and membership in California and/or New York.
- Minimum 6 years of experience focused on employment law.
- Prior in-house experience.
- Experience as an employment litigator, representing companies in disputes.
- Experience with class, collective, and representative actions.
- Ability to evaluate risk in light of business and practical considerations and make clear recommendations.
- Ability to balance and prioritize multiple time-sensitive tasks effectively and independently.
- Experience analyzing and providing advice on federal, state, and local wage and hour compliance.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a growing legal team and with members at all levels.
