About the job
- Good joinery or fabric skills, a related trade qualification, or experience in a similar role, including carpentry involving doors, frames, hinges, locks, furniture repairs, and shelving installation.
- General plumbing skills, including repairing sanitary ware such as unblocking sinks and toilets and repairing or replacing taps, toilet flushers, and showers.
- Awareness of health and safety requirements and safe methods of working.
- Ability to perform basic electrical duties, including lamp changes and minor repairs.
- A full United Kingdom driving licence.
- Successful completion of a PVG or Disclosure check.
- Undertake planned, reactive, and cyclical maintenance work independently or under the supervision of the Facilities Manager or Team Leader, or as an assistant to a maintenance tradesperson, and record completed work in compliance with contract conditions.
- Service and repair doors, windows, general building fabric, and plumbing systems.
- Service and repair internal fixtures and fittings.
- Undertake maintenance duties in support of the client's objectives.
- Ensure the safe operation and storage of plant, materials, equipment, and tools.
- Comply with regulations relating to COSHH, infection control, waste disposal, legislative requirements, and RFM policies and procedures.
- Carry out operational tests and inspections relating to facility security and access, maintenance and repair, and health and safety, including the security of the premises and its contents, and the lighting and heating of premises.
- Provide support and assistance to other RFM personnel on site in delivering contracted services.
- Provide out-of-hours maintenance support to Findlay House and Midlothian Community Hospital on a shared call-out rota with Midlothian Community Hospital engineers.
- Good communication skills.
- A hard-working, reliable, and punctual approach.
- Ability to work collaboratively, adjust quickly to unexpected challenges, and remain confident in decisions.

GBSS helps unlock canal skills. 2 hours Falkirk civil engineers GBSS will support Robertson Construction in the delivery of Lock 16, Scotland's Centre of Excellence for Canals and Traditional Skills, being developed by Scottish Canals and Historic Environment Scotland. Lock 16, on the banks of the Forth & Clyde Canal, will transform the former AG Barr factory site into a national hub for heritage skills, canal innovation, volunteering, training and employment opportunities. Supported by Scottish Government Investment of £4 million from the Falkirk and Grangemouth Growth Deal, National Lottery Heritage Fund, Regeneration Capital Grant Fund and Pride in Place Impact Fund, the project will help address the growing need for specialist traditional skills while safeguarding Scotland's historic waterways and built heritage for future generations. As part of GBSS's first partnership with Robertson Construction, the firm will support the delivery of infrastructure and civil engineering works as the project progresses, including all groundworks such as excavations, roads, hardstanding, drainage, various concrete works like new slabs, foundations along with all external finishes. The company's involvement will contribute to a landmark regeneration project that is set to create lasting social, economic and environmental benefits for Falkirk and the surrounding area. Once complete, the Lock 16 Centre of Excellence will provide specialist training in traditional trades, including stonemasonry and blacksmithing, while creating opportunities for apprenticeships, volunteering and employment. Delivered in partnership by Scottish Canals and Historic Environment Scotland, the centre will help develop the specialist skills needed to care for Scotland's canals, bridges, aqueducts, castles and other historic assets for generations to come. Construction of the new centre is now underway and is expected to continue into 2027. Once complete, Lock 16 Centre of Excellence will provide a permanent base for Scottish Canals' operational teams while creating a national destination dedicated to canal management, heritage conservation, traditional skills training, volunteering and innovation.
BAM raids Robertson for new Scotland regional boss. Aaron Morby 17 hours ago BAM UK & Ireland has recruited Robertson Construction board director Mike King to head its construction business in Scotland. Mike King, new regional boss for BAM in Scotland King will replace Jim Ward, who recently retired, as regional director for Scotland on 17 September, bringing nearly 30 years of engineering, project management and construction leadership experience. He joins from Robertson Construction Group, where he was executive technical director and a board member. At Robertson, King worked across the contractor's eight regional construction businesses with responsibility for preconstruction, planning, engineering, design, digital construction, quality and business improvement. He will now lead BAM's Scottish construction operation as the contractor looks to build on its workload across public and private sector markets. BAM has a strong presence in Scottish healthcare and education, with recent jobs including the £72m net zero carbon Parkhead Health and Social Care Centre in Glasgow and the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Radionuclide Dispensary. Its education workload includes Dunfermline Learning Campus and Caledonia High School in Rosyth, with both projects designed to Passivhaus standards.

Both Robertson Construction Group and Robertson Facilities Management (RFM) were celebrated for sustained excellence over the past year - with recognition spanning health and safety leadership, operational best practice, and environmental sustainability. RFM was named winner of the prestigious Facilities Management Sector Award, recognising organisations that demonstrate world-class safety performance, robust management systems and a strong safety culture. RFM also received the RoSPA Scotland Trophy, awarded to the highest-performing Scottish entrant within the sector categories, reflecting its consistent delivery of safe, high-quality services across public and private sector contracts.
