Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent technical studies in electronics, broadcast communications, or a related field; alternatively, a minimum of five years of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of six years of demonstrated expert-level experience troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining complex broadcast electronic equipment or comparable relevant experience.
  • A thorough understanding of broadcast air-chain components, including complex system interactions and IP-based signal distribution.
  • Intermediate networking skills, including TCP/IP, routing, and switching, with the ability to diagnose common network issues.
  • Advanced understanding of modern microwave and Low Earth Orbit satellite technologies and their integration.
  • Deep understanding of radio frequency emissions, interference mitigation, and regulatory compliance, including the ability to serve as an escalation point for complex RF challenges.
  • Expertise in soldering and desoldering electronic components, including precision work.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable broadcast-related Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations.
  • Ability to perform complex calculations for common broadcast-related formulae.
  • Advanced proficiency with standard broadcast test equipment, including VOMs, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other common software.
  • Proven ability to systematically and logically address multiple highly complex technical problems, often requiring innovative solutions.
  • Ability to apply sophisticated common-sense understanding to carry out complex instructions and think strategically from abstract problems to practical solutions.
  • Strong listening, constructive feedback, positive influence, written communication, verbal communication, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities
  • Partner across the engineering team to ensure programming is broadcast successfully through expert installation, maintenance, operation, updates, and intricate repairs.
  • Lead the operation, testing, and maintenance of advanced broadcast equipment, including audio processors, transmission systems, Emergency Alert System equipment, receivers, monitors, and electrical systems, while optimizing signal and sound according to Ministry guidelines.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance system performance, reliability, and efficiency, with a focus on IP-based, modern microwave, and Low Earth Orbit satellite solutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical faults on equipment and systems down to the component level using advanced analytical methods.
  • Partner and communicate with engineers, including contract engineers, to accomplish critical objectives.
  • Mentor and serve as an escalation point for more junior Broadcast Engineers, supporting their technical knowledge and professional development.
  • Complete and submit required administrative documentation, including timecards, expense reports, vehicle logs, budgeting documents, and other relevant records, by established deadlines.
  • Use and maintain designated asset management, work order, and ticketing system software to log activities, track inventory, and update status.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to emails, texts, and phone calls regarding operational status, project updates, and other work-related matters.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical records for compliance and operational continuity.
  • Maintain an expert-level understanding of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations and ensure equipment and operations comply with safety standards.
  • Champion the Injury Prevention and Safety program and adhere strictly to safety standards and lockout-tagout procedures.
  • Serve as Chief Operator/Engineer for assigned broadcast stations and fulfill all regulatory responsibilities.
  • Conduct comprehensive on-site visits to each assigned transmitter site at least once per quarter.
  • Provide immediate and expert response for unplanned outages, emergency repairs, and critical events requiring on-site presence.
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on non-broadcast equipment, including generators, HVAC, and minor electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Travel to remote sites for complex installations or critical repairs and to the K-LOVE campus for specialized training or project leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • SBE certification is highly desirable.
