About the job

Requirements
  • A degree in Software, Electrical, or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Geodesy, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline is required; an MSc or advanced degree is highly regarded.
  • At least 10 years of engineering leadership experience leading multidisciplinary Systems, Hardware, and Software teams delivering complex field-deployed systems in demanding real-world environments.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in product-centric organizations, including product discovery, design thinking, iterative delivery, and product ownership across the full lifecycle for the defense industry.
  • Practical experience using AI-augmented development tools, including LLM-based coding assistants, AI-driven prototyping platforms, and agentic development workflows.
  • Strongly preferred: experience in navigation, satellite positioning (GNSS, PPP, PNT), robotics, autonomous systems, or related precision-technology domains.
  • Familiarity with US defense, maritime, or energy-sector regulatory markets is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to build teams, practices, and products from the ground up in a new geography or business unit with limited initial resources.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional and cross-cultural product teams and working across time zones in a globally coordinated organization.
  • Ability to motivate technically elite team members through vision, clear context, and a human-centered leadership philosophy.
  • Ability to map long-term corporate objectives to concrete technical roadmaps while balancing engineering excellence with commercial requirements.
  • Skill in navigating cross-functional tensions between engineering rigor and commercial urgency, US and global priorities, and precision-technology standards.
  • Ability to articulate complex engineering architectures and multidisciplinary trade-offs to technical specialists and non-technical executive stakeholders.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and authorized to hold or holding a current security clearance, and able to secure a TS/SCI/SAP or other clearance if required.
Responsibilities
  • Represent Americas technical interests within the Global Product Engineering Leadership Team and influence the global roadmap to incorporate regional requirements by design.
  • Analyze complex, often sensitive client needs with the Navigation Solution Architect and translate them into robust, general-purpose capabilities.
  • Lead design of a modular secure layer for requirements governed by SSA or security air gaps, meeting classified obligations while preserving the global platform’s integrity and update velocity.
  • Promote Common Core development and sustainable platform-wide solutions over bespoke localized engineering efforts to optimize R&D investment.
  • Provide executive-level technical guidance on the Americas PNT landscape so hardware and software evolution anticipates changes in resilient navigation, sensor fusion, and regulatory standards.
  • Establish Advanced Navigation Americas’ engineering presence, define team structure and hiring requirements, and build a multidisciplinary culture across Systems, Hardware, Electronics, and Software Engineering.
  • Own the Americas engineering portfolio, including roadmap development, delivery execution, and budget management across R&D disciplines.
  • Champion AI-native engineering practices, including LLM-assisted coding and automated engineering workflows, to improve productivity.
  • Own the full development lifecycle for US-focused product add-ons, from design through delivery, release management, and post-launch improvement, ensuring hardware and software integration.
  • Set Americas R&D team metrics and align the team’s work with the global mission and Product team where SSA, ITAR, and EAR restrictions allow; translate long-term goals into an executable multidisciplinary roadmap.
  • Connect Engineering, Product Management, Business Development, and Customer Support so software is developed with commercial intent, sold with technical credibility, and supported rigorously.
  • Work with the Sydney-based product teams across Navigation Solutions, Software Platforms, Robotics, Inertial, and Acoustics.
  • Own recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, and professional development for the US engineering team to build and retain a high-talent-density organization.
  • Deliver Americas quarterly and annual Objectives and Key Results on schedule.
  • Meet agreed US engineering-team headcount and talent-density milestones while maintaining strong engagement and retention.
  • Integrate AI tooling into development workflows and measure sustained impact through delivery velocity, defect rates, and prototyping cycle times.
Desired Qualifications
  • An MSc or advanced degree in a stated technical discipline is highly regarded.
  • Experience in navigation, satellite positioning (GNSS, PPP, PNT), robotics, autonomous systems, or related precision-technology domains is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with US defense, maritime, or energy-sector regulatory markets is advantageous.

What believers are saying

  • March 2026 Series C raised US$110 million, funding US and Europe expansion.
  • June 2026 brought EMEA leadership and a Huntsville manufacturing hub plan.
  • 2026 launches of Chimera Land and LUNA broaden mining, underground, and lunar demand.

What critics are saying

  • Airtree, Quadrant, and NRFC funding pushes growth pressure after the March 2026 round.
  • Defense concentration ties revenue to KONGSBERG, Australian procurement, and contested export approvals.
  • Any Boreas failure in Army, lunar, or submarine programs would damage the APNT brand.

What makes Advanced Navigation unique

  • Boreas D90 and D50 sell GPS-denied precision for defense and autonomous platforms.
  • Hydrus pairs micro-AUV hardware with 2026 firmware updates for subsea surveying.
  • KONGSBERG’s December 2025 deal validates Advanced Navigation’s strategic-grade FOG INS.
