Requirements
  • A master's degree from a Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) accredited program with major coursework in mental health counseling, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of clinical experience, including at least one year of emergency, crisis, or outreach work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • New York State licensure as a mental health practitioner, such as a Mental Health Counselor or Creative Arts Therapist, upon hire; alternatively, an active limited permit or submitted application to the New York State Department of Education upon hire, followed by New York State licensure within the specified timeframe.
  • For work on the ACT or Mobile Crisis teams, New York State licensure as a mental health practitioner is required within 48 months.
  • A valid New York State driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
Responsibilities
  • Provide assessment, crisis intervention, and treatment to complex patients in mental health crisis across outreach settings, including group homes, shelters, patients’ homes, and other sites across Monroe County.
  • Collaborate with hospital and community institutions and groups regarding the psychosocial needs of patients and families.
  • Conduct clinical intake and assessment, plan and carry out psychiatric crisis intervention in the community, and determine appropriate levels of care and referrals.
  • Provide clinical leadership to the field team and the Child and Adolescent multidisciplinary clinic team while exercising independent clinical judgment in the assessment and treatment of psychiatric patients.
  • Involve families, natural supports, and other mental health treatment providers in assessment and care coordination, and conduct follow-up contact with therapists and physicians.
  • Assess scene safety before leaving the home base and access law enforcement services as needed to ensure team safety in the field.
  • Promote and ensure staff education regarding multicultural factors affecting patient care and treatment, and participate in education, training, staff meetings, and didactics.
  • Document treatment in patient charts in compliance with Division, Department, and Hospital policy.
  • Ensure treatment and referral protocols are followed for child abuse, domestic violence, specialty clinic consultation, and internal and external referrals.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call group for evening and weekend hours and respond to community crises after hours as necessary.
  • Maintain current knowledge of mental hygiene law and its use.
Desired Qualifications
