Requirements
  • A Certified Veterinary Technician credential or board-eligible status is required.
  • Veterinary Technician, Anesthesia A requires 0–1 year of experience.
  • Veterinary Technician, Anesthesia B requires 2–3 years of experience.
  • Veterinary Technician, Anesthesia C requires 3–4 years of experience.
  • Veterinary Technician, Anesthesia D requires 5–8 years of experience.
  • Veterinary Technician, Anesthesia E requires 8+ years of experience and a Veterinary Technician Specialist credential or additional certifications.
  • Overnight and weekend on-call coverage is required once fully trained.
Responsibilities
  • Anesthetize small animals in inpatient, outpatient, critical, and non-critical cases.
  • Review each animal’s medical history.
  • Develop an appropriate anesthetic protocol for each patient.
  • Place intravenous catheters.
  • Perform physical examinations.
  • Induce, maintain, and recover anesthesia for the animal.
  • Oversee animal recovery and determine when an animal may return to its ward or be discharged.
  • Set up appropriate equipment for cases.
  • Communicate with clinicians regarding inpatient cases.
  • Maintain the flow of the daily schedule by starting cases at the appropriate times and communicating with clinicians.
