Kogan's sales and profit soar; Mighty Ape's turnaround shows progress.

Kogan's sales and profit soar; Mighty Ape's turnaround shows progress. By Sean Cao August 24, 2026 Kogan Group has reported higher sales and profit for the last fiscal year, as its core Kogan.com business achieved double-digit growth across key metrics while Mighty Ape remained in negative territory. The group's gross sales jumped 12 per cent in the year ended June 30, exceeding $1 billion, while revenue rose 5 per cent to $510 million. Kogan.com recorded a 16 per cent growth in both annual gross sales and revenue. Meanwhile, Mighty Ape's gross sales fell 14 per cent and revenue plunged 30 per cent amid an operational reset. Group statutory net profit after tax was $11.2 million, including a $16.3 million profit from Kogan.com and a $5.1 million loss from Mighty Ape. Management said the strength at the core Kogan business was supported by AI-driven processes and automation across its operations, which helped drive both margin expansion and greater operating efficiency. The increased operating efficiency enabled greater investment in marketing to drive further growth, while continuing to expand earnings margins, they added. Over at Mighty Ape, a "significant operational reset" continued during the fiscal year, focusing on optimising inventory, rationalising unprofitable categories, and simplifying the cost base. Over the period, the New Zealand-based site reduced its inventory from $21 million to $10 million, while operations ceased at its Christchurch warehouse. These initiatives helped cut quarterly fixed costs from $4.9 million to $3.4 million, and returned the business to positive adjusted EBITDA in the fourth quarter. In addition, platform-based sales across Mighty Ape Marketplace, Primate and Mighty Mobile continued to grow, increasing the contribution of higher-margin revenue streams. For FY27, the group will remain focused on disciplined growth at Kogan.com and build on the progress made through Mighty Ape's reset to generate sustainable sales.

Kogan caught running 'clone' website.

Kogan caught running 'clone' website. By Christopher Kelly | 28 July 2026 2 / 3 free articles left. Australian online retailer Kogan has been caught operating a 'clone' website called Exclusive Brands, selling the same products with large price hikes. The ABC reported the news this week after conducting an investigation, with some in the industry calling for an official investigation into the matter. Kogan has defended its use of the Exclusive Brands website and is denying any wrongdoing. The Exclusive Brands website does not sell clothing like the Kogan.com website does, but a check by this publication shows some products being listed on the Exclusive Brands website with a price tag that is double what it is on Kogan. An Orbis 5 Piece Luggage Set is being sold on Exclusive Brands for $399.99, with the same set being sold on Kogan for $159. The Kogan listing says the standard retail price for this is $399.99. In another instance, a Kogan Active Tactical GPS Smart Sport Watch in graphite colour is selling for $249.95 on Exclusive Brands, but sells for $109.95 on Kogan. In a statement, Kogan denied the website was solely based on effecting discounts, claiming it also charged higher prices on Kogan. "Kogan.com only advertises an SRP as a reference price where that price has been offered on kogan.com itself for a reasonable time and within a recent period of time," the company shared to the ABC. "Standard Retail Pricing may also apply to the same product on other Kogan Group channels." The ABC did ask for evidence that Kogan shared higher prices, but Kogan declined to share. "Kogan Group does not disclose sales information regarding individual products," it said in a statement. Founded by Ruslan Kogan in 2006, Kogan Group includes the Kogan marketplace in Australia, Mighty Ape in New Zealand, and a raft of retail services including insurance and mobile. Over the 10 months to April 30, Kogan.com reported a gross sales growth of 18.2 per cent to $773.9 million, with revenue up 18.1 per cent to $358.1 million and gross profit up 19.5 per cent to $155.7 million. Across the group, total gross sales were up 13.2 per cent to $875.6 million, with gross profit up 11.1 per cent to $177.9 million.

Kogan Group (ASX: KGN) has reported strong growth in its business update for the first 10 months of FY26, driven by Kogan.com's robust performance and early signs of a turnaround at Mighty Ape. For the 10 months ended 30 April 2026, Group Gross Sales rose 13.2% to $875.6 million, while Group Revenue grew 6.0% to $433.7 million. The company also saw improved profitability, with Group Adjusted EBITDA climbing 17.4% to $37.5 million. Group Adjusted EBIT experienced an even stronger surge, up 25.4% to $26.9 million. The Group Adjusted EBITDA margin reached 8.6%, placing Kogan towards the upper end of its FY26 guidance of 6% to 9%. Kogan.com leads the growth charge. The strategic shift towards a capital-light, high-margin model for Mighty Ape appears to be gaining traction, with a notable 52.8% reduction in Adjusted EBITDA losses compared to the prior corresponding period. This follows previous reports that Mighty Ape was focused on an inventory and operational reset in 1HFY26, where it recorded an Adjusted EBITDA loss of $3.2 million. Customer growth and strategic focus. Across the entire Kogan Group, Active Customers increased by 4% to 3.5 million. This sustained customer engagement underscores the company's strategic focus on its platform-based model. The group continues its emphasis on expanding platform-based sales and implementing structural cost reductions. These efforts are aimed at driving further operating leverage and supporting a path to sustained profitability for the entire group. Outlook and risks. Kogan Group's 10-month update demonstrates significant positive momentum, with strong growth in sales and profitability driven by the core Kogan.com division and an improving performance at Mighty Ape. While the group is tracking towards the upper end of its guidance, ongoing execution risks at Mighty Ape remain a key factor for achieving sustained profitability. The timing of Mighty Ape's full return to sustained profitability is a watch point for investors, alongside the broader retail environment. Join 100,000+ investors. Unsubscribe anytime.

Kogan.com shares jump 20pc as NZ turnaround helps sales surge past $875m.

Kogan.com shares jump 20pc as NZ turnaround helps sales surge past $875m. By Business News Australia 26 May 2026 Kogan.com founder and CEO Ruslin Kogan Shares in Melbourne-based online retailer Kogan.com (ASX: KGN) surged more than 20 per cent today after the company reported group gross sales of $875.6 million for the 10 months to the end of April. The gross sales figure is up 13.2 per cent on the prior corresponding period, while expanding margins and a turnaround at its New Zealand subsidiary Mighty Ape have also helped drive a 17.4 per cent jump in adjusted EBITDA to $37.5 million. Shares in the e-commerce group hit a high of $4.14 today and were still trading close to their intra-day high at $4.08 at 3.26pm (AEST). The business update shows the company is tracking towards the upper end of its full-year adjusted EBITDA margin guidance range of 6 to 9 per cent, with the group recording an 8.6 per cent margin for the period. Group revenue rose 6 per cent to $433.7 million, while gross profit climbed 11.1 per cent to $177.9 million, indicating the business is extracting more margin from each dollar of sales. The latest update affirms company founder and CEO Ruslan Kogan's optimism when releasing the company's half-year results in February when he described the company's focus on delivering value to its growing customer base driving "significant momentum" across the company's business. The core Kogan.com Australian business was the primary engine of the latest results, posting gross sales growth of 18.2 per cent and a 43.2 per cent jump in adjusted EBIT. The Australian operation achieved an adjusted EBITDA margin of 11.5 per cent, well above the group average. Active customers on the Kogan.com platform grew 9 per cent, helping push group active customers to 3.5 million as at 30 April 2026, up 4 per cent on the prior corresponding period. Mighty Ape, the New Zealand-focused online retailer Kogan.com acquired in 2021, remains loss-making at the year-to-date level, recording an adjusted EBITDA loss of $3.8 million on gross sales that fell 14.2 per cent to $101.7 million. The subsidiary swung from a $700,000 adjusted EBITDA profit in the prior corresponding period. However, the company points to material improvement in the most recent four months. Between January and April 2026, Mighty Ape's adjusted EBITDA losses halved, falling 52.8 per cent compared with the same four-month window a year earlier, while gross margin jumped 8.4 percentage points to 37.8 per cent. The update comes nine months after Kogan.com wrote down $46.3 million in Mighty Ape goodwill in its FY25 results, citing website upgrade problems that disrupted the New Zealand business. At the time, Kogan framed the issues as temporary and flagged a comprehensive reset of the Mighty Ape operation. At the half-year mark on 31 December 2025, the group held $71.8 million in cash with no external debt and paid an interim dividend of 8c per share, up 14.3 per cent on the prior year. The strong trading over the past 10 months lands amid a buoyant period for Australian e-commerce. Australia Post data shows total online spending in Australia hit $82.6 billion in calendar year 2025, up 14 per cent year on year, providing a tailwind for pure-play online retailers.
