  • Experience with NAND flash and other non-volatile storage.
  • Experience in the storage industry, storage systems, or a related technology.
  • Experience with defect tracking, change control, and firmware release processes in a production or sustaining environment.

About the company

Micron Technology designs and manufactures memory and storage chips, mainly DRAM and NAND flash, used in data centers, PCs, phones, cars and industrial equipment. It is one of only three companies that make HBM, the stacked high-bandwidth memory placed beside processors in AI servers, and it is the largest memory chipmaker based in the United States. Unlike chip designers that outsource production, Micron runs its own fabs and assembly sites in the United States and across Asia. It earns money by selling chips, memory modules and solid-state drives to cloud providers, device makers and distributors. Micron was founded in 1978 and is headquartered in Boise, Idaho.

What believers are saying

  • Demand is surging: in September 2026, Micron reported fiscal 2026 revenue of $133.19 billion, up from $37.38 billion.
  • Boise is hiring: in August 2026, Micron planned about 3,500 direct jobs at two Idaho fabs opening from 2027.
  • Sales are locked in early: by October 2026, most of Micron's 2027 HBM supply was contracted at higher prices.

What critics are saying

  • Revenue is concentrated: about half of Micron's sales came from its top ten customers in each of three years.
  • Departing engineers face scrutiny: in September 2026, Micron sued rival YMTC for hiring away at least 20 engineers.
  • Boise is feeling the strain: an August 2026 report found the $50 billion Idaho buildout straining local infrastructure.

What makes Micron Technology unique

  • AI memory is a three-player club: only Micron, SK hynix and Samsung make HBM, the stacked memory inside AI servers.
  • It owns its factories: Micron makes chips in Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, the U.S., Malaysia, China and India.
  • Data centers drive the business: its two data center units made $34.28 billion of quarterly revenue reported September 2026.

Micron's Taichung union strikes labour deal, but Taoyuan dispute lingers as shares rise 2%

Micron Technology's Taiwan unit has reached a labor deal with the union at its Taichung site, the two sides said on October 21. They cancelled a mediation meeting planned for October 22. Terms have not been made public. The deal does not cover the Taoyuan union, which still has approval to strike. It rejected an offer of a NT1 million ($31,386) cash payment, part of a package worth at least NT1.7 million ($53,356) per worker. Taiwan is Micron's largest manufacturing base, so a strike could disrupt chip supply. Micron shares rose more than 2% in premarket trading on Wednesday.

Nvidia, Broadcom, TSMC, Micron: AI stocks to buy in 2027 as Broadcom targets $115B AI revenue

AI stocks are sliding after a hot inflation report raised the prospect of an interest rate rise. One Motley Fool columnist argues the sell-off is short-sighted and names four stocks to buy for 2027: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC), Micron Technology, Nvidia, and Broadcom. Nvidia expects 70% revenue growth next year. Broadcom expects AI semiconductor revenue to rise to $115 billion, up from about $65 billion this year. TSMC, which makes chips for nearly all big tech firms, reported fast third-quarter revenue growth. Micron expects memory chip shortages to worsen in 2027 and 2028, even as new capacity arrives in mid-2027. Its stock trades at 5 times this fiscal year's earnings.

Micron backs Indium Corporation's New York critical minerals revival, part of $3B supply-chain plan

Micron Technology has invested in Indium Corporation to restart critical minerals processing in Rome, New York. The deal is part of Micron's plan, announced in July, to invest up to $3 billion in the US semiconductor supply chain. Micron will provide funding for Indium to expand its refining and manufacturing operations. The companies will sign a long-term supply agreement giving Micron access to high-purity minerals used in advanced memory chips. The investment aims to reduce reliance on concentrated global refining capacity. Micron has also raised its expected US fab and technology spending to more than $250 billion through 2035. "Securing these inputs is essential to Micron's long-term growth and technology roadmap," said Ben Tessone, chief procurement officer at Micron.

Wall Street's top trillion-dollar stock pick is Micron, with 70% upside to a $1,575 target

Wall Street analysts see Micron Technology as the best of the 13 US-listed stocks worth at least $1 trillion. Among 56 analysts, the median target price is $1,575 a share, implying 70% upside from $925. Broadcom's median target is $525, or 54% above $329. Nvidia's is $320, or 45% above $219. Micron's profits are soaring on a memory chip shortage driven by demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure. September quarter revenue rose 379% to $54 billion, and non-GAAP earnings reached $33.42 a diluted share, from $3.03 a year earlier. Risks remain. New capacity could cause oversupply by 2029, and prices fell about 70% in the last downturn. Micron trades at 12 times earnings, against 6 times at the last cycle's low.

Micron up 350%, but SK Hynix, Sandisk and Astera Labs may offer faster growth

Micron's stock has risen about 350% in a year, but three rival memory stocks may offer better value, according to one analyst view. SK Hynix posted second-quarter revenue of 79.3 trillion Korean won (about $54.9 billion), up 257% year over year and 51% sequentially. Micron grew 31% sequentially. SK Hynix also has a lower market cap and a more attractive P/E ratio. Sandisk shares have surged more than 800% in a year. It expects fiscal 2027 first-quarter revenue of up to $10.8 billion, or 20.4% sequential growth. Astera Labs, which builds rack-scale AI infrastructure, more than doubled its second-quarter sales. It guides to $550 million in third-quarter sales at the midpoint, a 40.2% sequential rise.
