What believers are saying

  • Burro closed a $24M Series B in June 2026, signaling investor conviction.
  • Petitti Family Farms expanded Burro fleets in 2025 and 2026, proving repeatable deployments.
  • Grande 44 launched June 2026, opening industrial and outdoor markets beyond agriculture.

What critics are saying

  • Hardware scaling burns cash; June 2026’s $24M Series B finances limited runway.
  • Specialty-crop demand concentrates in grapes, berries, and nurseries, exposing Burro to adoption slowdowns.
  • John Deere, Kubota, and niche robotics rivals can outspend Burro before Grande 44 ships.

What makes Burro unique

  • Burro’s Pop-Up Autonomy targets rugged specialty-crop logistics, not generic row-crop autonomy.
  • Burro combines vision-based robots, GPS, and teach-and-repeat workflows for crews.
  • Burro’s portfolio now spans harvest assist, towing, transport, mowing, and spraying.

Burro's Grande 44 autonomous robot ships globally, backed by 800 robots and one million hours

Philadelphia-based Burro has made Grande 44, its most powerful autonomous work platform, generally available. The robot is shipping through the company's direct sales team and a network of 50 dealers across 17 countries. Grande 44 opened for pre-order in June, and production began in August. It can tow up to 6,000 lbs, carry up to 1,500 lbs, and tow, mow, spray, and patrol. Burro says it works on arrival, with no changes to a customer's facilities. Burro has deployed more than 800 robots and logged more than one million autonomous hours. At Mesa Vineyards, Burro robots cut mowing costs from $22 to $5 per acre. "The industry has plenty of prototypes and very few products," said chief executive officer Charlie Andersen.

It can tow, transport, mow, spray, and patrol without changes to a customer's facility. More than 800 Burro robots operate in 17 countries, having logged over one million autonomous hours in vineyards, nurseries, orchards, and industrial sites. "Our customers are proving the value of our robots every day, in the mud, the heat and the dust," said chief executive officer Charlie Andersen.

The 7 Biggest Farm Robotics Deals Of 2024 So Far

The farm robotics sector has shown some resilience in 2024 and continues to bring innovative products to market, despite the challenging year for fundraising. In the first half of 2024, the AgFunder-defined Farm Robotics, Mechanization, and Equipment category has raised nearly $399 million, a 21.1 % decline from $505.5 million in H1 2023. [Disclosure: AgFunderNews’ parent company is AgFunder.]. However, this drop needs to be considered in the context of a general investment contraction that has characterized the last 18 months. Overall agrifoodtech investment was also down in H1 2024: 12.5% compared to H1 2023. The drop in funding to the robotics sector is more or less in line with general trends
