Requirements
  • The candidate must be at least 21 years of age.
  • The candidate must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • The candidate must have demonstrated experience delivering programming in child care, youth sports, wellness, recreation, or camp.
  • The candidate must have at least three years of experience working with children.
  • The candidate must have at least one year of supervisory experience.
  • The candidate must have strong customer service skills and be able to respond to multiple questions by phone, email, and in person.
  • The candidate must be able to solve problems and resolve conflicts.
  • The candidate must have strong computer skills and experience using word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • The candidate must know how to use standard office equipment, including fax machines, copiers, and phone systems.
  • The candidate must hold current state-approved first-aid certification at hire or complete the training as soon as possible, no later than 90 days after employment.
  • The candidate must hold current state-approved infant/child CPR certification, or community CPR certification for school-aged programs, at hire or complete the training as soon as possible, no later than 90 days after employment.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise the delivery of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities for assigned program areas.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and volunteers.
  • Assist with conducting staff meetings and trainings.
  • Engage professionally with parents and guardians to provide information about their child’s experience and promote upcoming programs.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Provide direct supervision to a group of children as needed.
  • Maintain attendance records, registration information, accident reports, and discipline records according to YMCA standards.
  • Recruit new enrollments.
  • Ensure that site supplies are maintained and purchased as necessary.
  • Assist with developing and monitoring department budgets.
  • Encourage member involvement, identify potential volunteers, and assist with the Annual Campaign.
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Ensure staff are properly screened, trained, supervised, and held accountable to the organization’s abuse risk management standards.
  • Adhere to abuse prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • A college degree is preferred; other applicable education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations is preferred.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English may be helpful.
