Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Hold a Registered Nurse license or a Licensed Practical Nurse registration.
  • Hold Basic Life Support certification and CPR certification.
  • Have 1-3 years of related work experience.
  • Have strong interpersonal, patient communication, and patient education skills.
  • Have advanced skills with Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access, and other web-based applications; the role may require producing complex documents, performing analysis, and maintaining databases.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken English with medical center staff, patients, families, and external customers.
  • Provide patient care to young adults, middle-aged adults, and elderly patients.
  • Work in close proximity to patients and handle potential exposure to infectious diseases, airborne pathogens, bloodborne pathogens, and other adverse environmental conditions while using required protective equipment.
  • Perform medium physical work, including occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds and frequent exertion of up to 20 pounds, with standing, walking, bending, grasping, manipulation, pushing, pulling, keyboard use, and reaching.
  • Occasionally push a wheelchair or wheeled bed containing a patient weighing up to 250 pounds with assistance, and rarely reposition patients of up to 100 pounds without assistance or up to 250 pounds with assistance.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and facilitate quality clinical management of a broad outpatient population across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborate with providers to identify preventive care needs, support evidence-based chronic disease management, and coordinate care.
  • Provide general and specific healthcare education and work directly with patients to identify and monitor self-management goals.
  • Collaborate with community-based providers and follow up on emergency department visits and inpatient discharges.
  • Assist providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures as needed.
  • Provide skilled telephonic triage and assessment, education, collaboration, and coordination of healthcare and community resources.
  • Provide direct patient care, including Annual Wellness Visits and Chronic Care Management for patients.
  • Manage and provide teaching for patients receiving Coumadin using a standardized INR management protocol.
  • Administer vaccines and medications by parenteral, oral, rectal, or nasal routes according to provider orders and medication administration policies.
  • Provide education regarding administered medications.
  • Perform nursing activities such as wound care and point-of-care testing under provider direction.
  • Document all aspects of patient care accurately and promptly in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Schedule tests and specialty-care referrals at the provider's direction.
  • Monitor and ensure follow-up of abnormal test and imaging results under provider direction.
  • Oversee inventory and ordering of clinical supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure the safe, accurate, and clinically appropriate collection, storage, and processing of biologic specimens.
  • Provide oversight and delegation and act as a resource to medical assistants, certified nursing assistants, and nursing students.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to practice staff and maintain clinical knowledge and skills through consultation, literature review, continuing education, and mandatory annual training.
  • Ensure protected health information is used only for treatment, payment, and healthcare operations.
  • Promote patient safety practices to prevent or eliminate patient harm and promptly report adverse events and near misses to Risk Management.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
