Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, or a minimum of ten years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of seven consecutive years of total profit-and-loss accountability on multiple projects.
  • At least five years of experience managing all disciplines of design/build projects or hard-bid projects for the applicable market.
  • Experience with lump-sum, guaranteed maximum price, cost-plus construction management, and fee-based construction contracting methods.
  • Understanding of the legal aspects and implications of contractual language.
  • A proven record of increasing project profitability from the initial project profit margin on multiple projects.
  • Sufficient technical knowledge of engineering and design disciplines to represent the company as the primary point of contact in initial customer discussions.
  • Thorough knowledge of costs and fees associated with the engineering, design, and related services offered by the company.
  • Thorough knowledge of how changes during design, engineering, and construction affect cost, schedule, construction management, and construction operations.
  • Experience managing at least one project involving process or production equipment procurement or installation, or comparable components for mission-critical, large distribution, manufacturing, support-utility, equipment-procurement, or equipment-installation projects, with more than two million dollars of component work per project.
  • Knowledge of discrete equipment components, systems, and installation procedures for preparing estimates and proposals.
  • Proven experience developing aggressive project schedules with variables including project type, areas, and seasonal start dates.
  • Proven experience preparing cost estimates for industrial design/build projects.
  • The ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with owners, coworkers, vendors, suppliers, and community stakeholders.
  • The ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical publications, and government regulations.
  • The ability to write reports and business correspondence and present information to employees, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • The ability to develop, interpret, and understand complex financial information.
  • Basic business mathematical skills, including arithmetic using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • The ability to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, and other instructions.
  • Basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications.
  • Working knowledge of scheduling and/or estimating applications may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate customer and project-team meetings and ensure that meeting minutes and action-item registers are updated and distributed promptly.
  • Ensure that project start-up meetings are held when required with the appropriate team members.
  • Track project action items systematically and ensure their completion.
  • Ensure that project staff complete submittal reviews, status reports, closeout documents, and maintenance manuals promptly.
  • Visit project sites regularly.
  • Monitor project progress, identify budget and cost issues early, develop corrective actions, and provide reports to responsible leadership.
  • Operate within budgetary limitations and requirements.
  • Develop project-specific proposals and execution strategies, secure cross-functional buy-in, and finalize the strategy early in project execution.
  • Monitor purchasing of materials, subcontracts, equipment, and services to achieve savings while meeting safety, quality, schedule, training, and profitability requirements.
  • Ensure that project staff issue change orders to subcontractors and customers according to work procedures.
  • Ensure that project staff complete red files accurately and on time, and review red files and job-cost reports with the Site Manager monthly.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the project master schedule to ensure alignment with the execution strategy and contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with Field Operations, architecture and engineering services, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services to assess schedule progress and develop corrective measures.
  • Ensure project delays are documented and communicated, including timely notices and documentation supporting schedule extensions or schedule modifications.
  • Ensure that contractual terms and conditions in owner contracts and subcontracts are understood and acted upon appropriately.
  • Ensure that safety, quality, scheduling, training, and profitability goals are met and promote and implement safety and quality programs.
  • Develop the project risk-management plan, assign monitoring and reporting responsibilities, and incorporate risk planning into the project execution plan.
  • Assess plan effectiveness and collaborate with relevant service teams to develop plan changes and corrective actions.
  • Provide oversight of risk mitigation, assist project teams with corrective measures, and monitor those measures until risks are mitigated.
  • Serve as the primary customer contact and account manager for escalated issues before director-level escalation.
  • Develop relationship-management and project-communication plans covering customers, subcontractors, consultants, and project teams.
  • Assess relationship-plan effectiveness and develop corrective actions with Field Operations, architecture and engineering services, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services.
  • Demonstrate leadership and the company's core values when interacting with project staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and customers.
  • Ensure continuity of workflow in the absence or termination of subordinates or other project staff.
  • Ensure project staff support and follow the company's vision, core values, and mission.
  • Monitor project-team cohesiveness and develop action plans to address project-management resource issues.
  • Mentor and train senior project managers and project managers, and ensure training is available to assistant project managers and project engineers.
  • Ensure cooperation between project staff, engineering and design staff, and construction-site staff.
  • Communicate regularly with other Project Executives and responsible directors, regional managers, or vice presidents.
  • Supervise multiple team members in various positions and external resources.
