Seatrium wins Karpowership contract to convert five 600MW hydrogen-ready Whale Class Powerships

Seatrium has won a contract from Karpowership to convert and integrate five third-generation, hydrogen-ready Whale Class Powerships. The Singapore shipbuilder will handle equipment integration, mechanical completion and pre-commissioning. Engineering is under way. The first vessel is due at Seatrium's Tuas Boulevard Yard in December 2027. Powerships are floating power plants that connect directly to national grids and can start generating in as little as 30 days. The Whale Class is Karpowership's largest, deploying up to 600MW. The deal follows a Letter of Intent signed in August 2025. Since 2018, Seatrium has delivered seven floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) conversions to Karpowership, and secured the eighth and ninth this year.
