Requirements

An Associate Degree in Nursing is required.
A Registered Professional Nurse New York State license and current registration, or a valid permit to practice in New York State as an RN, is required upon hire.
At least 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience is required.
Ability to use basic data entry and retrieval systems at medium proficiency is required.
Effective written and oral English communication skills at medium proficiency are required.
An OHS Fit Test is required.
An OHS Annual Assessment is required.
Basic Life Support training is required upon hire.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support training is required upon hire.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support training is required upon hire.
Infection Control and Barrier Precaution training is required upon hire.

Responsibilities

Coordinate a plan of care for patients and families for pre- and post-operative visits.
Document and demonstrate the teaching and learning needs of patients and families for pre- and post-operative visits.
Ensure documentation reflects systematic and continuous data collection.
Document all relevant case and patient information in the electronic medical record.
Apply nursing knowledge, research, and evidence-based practice in care and clinical judgment.
Respond appropriately to urgent and emergent situations.
Administer medication according to the medication administration policy.
Integrate the standards of excellence into daily clinical practice.
Ensure compliance with written policies, procedures, and standards of practice and care.
Maintain licensure and current registration.
Maintain mandatory certification and competency, including annual review and Basic Life Support.

Desired Qualifications

A BS in Nursing is preferred.
Certification in a specialty is preferred upon hire.

Job Description

Job Summary

The RN maintains professional practice standards and clinical expertise. This role demonstrates core and specific competencies based on care required for the pre/post operative patient population served for the Specialty Surgeons of Connecticut Practice. The RN will be scheduled on an hourly basis determined by the provided schedule, patient visits and follow up care required.

Essential Functions

1. Coordinates a plan of care for patients and families for pre and post operative visits.
2. Documents and demonstrates teaching/learning needs of patients and families for pre and post operative visits.
3 .Documentation reflects systematic and continuous collection of data.
4. Documents all relevant case and patient information in EMR.
5. Utilizes knowledge of nursing, research and evidenced based practice in the application of care and clinical judgment.
6. Responds appropriately to urgent/emergent situations.
7. Administers medication according to the medication administration policy.
8. Integrates the standards of excellence into daily clinical practice.
9. Ensure compliance with written policies, procedures and standards of practice/care.
10. Maintains licensure and current registration.
11. Maintains mandatory certification, and competency including but not limited to annual review, BLS, etc.

Qualifications

Associate Degree in Nursing required
BS in Nursing Preferred
Registered Professional Nurse New York State License and current registration or valid permit to practice in New York State as an RN Upon Hire Required
At least 2 years of RN experience in the Emergency Department experience required
Ability to use basic data entry and retrieval systems (Medium proficiency)
Effective English communication skills, both written and oral (Medium proficiency)
