NVIDIA introduces open platform for AI agent security.

NVIDIA introduces open platform for AI agent security. 3 minutes read NVIDIA has introduced the NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform, an open software platform and reference system design aimed at providing security controls for AI agents from testing through deployment. The platform combines NVIDIA OpenShell, open-source runtime software designed to establish boundaries around agent activity, with NVIDIA Sentry, a reference system design that uses NVIDIA BlueField-4 data processing units (DPUs) to monitor agent behaviour and enforce policies independently of the agent itself. NVIDIA said the platform is intended to provide controls across the software used to run AI agents, the computing infrastructure supporting them and, in some cases, robotics systems that allow agents to interact with the physical world. "As we continue to discover the frontier of AI capabilities, we must accelerate discovery at the frontier of AI safety," said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. "Safety and security require full-stack engineering. NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform brings together industry, researchers and public-sector organisations to share best practices, align on evaluation methods and foster international cooperation." Runtime controls for AI agents OpenShell provides a runtime environment in which policies can be applied to the actions performed by AI agents. NVIDIA said the software is designed to provide a security boundary outside the model and agent framework, allowing organisations to control how agents interact with systems and resources. The software is available as open source and can be extended to work with third-party computing platforms, including Arm and Intel systems. NVIDIA said OpenShell is optimised to run on its Vera CPU, which was designed for agentic AI workloads. The company said the platform is intended to address scenarios in which an AI agent attempts to bypass application-level security controls while carrying out an assigned task. Hardware-based monitoring The platform's reference system design includes NVIDIA Sentry, an out-of-band monitoring mechanism that runs on NVIDIA BlueField-4 DPUs. Sentry is designed to monitor agent activity independently of the main computing environment and enforce policies at the hardware level. According to NVIDIA, it can isolate an agent if it attempts to operate outside its defined software boundaries. The system uses NVIDIA DOCA software to inspect agent requests and responses, provide telemetry, verify agent identity and apply access policies covering data, tools, APIs and services. Industry adoption NVIDIA said more than 100 organisations are working with technologies associated with the Open Agent Safety Platform. Among them, Anthropic is integrating OpenShell and BlueField with its Claude Managed Agents architecture. Anthropic said the approach separates the agent loop from the environments in which tasks are executed. "Companies are giving AI agents more of their most important work, and they need to direct and verify what those agents do, especially in sensitive environments," said Paul Smith, chief commercial officer of Anthropic. Scale AI is also working with NVIDIA to incorporate the platform's technologies into the infrastructure supporting its GenAI Portfolio. The company said it is using the reference design to provide isolation, policy enforcement and auditability for agentic AI applications. Salesforce has integrated OpenShell with Slack, allowing teams to view agent activity and audit events and approve or reject requests for additional permissions. SAP is integrating OpenShell with the Joule Studio runtime within its SAP Business AI Platform and contributing engineering work to the OpenShell project. Other organisations identified by NVIDIA as working with the platform or related technologies include Accenture, Armadin, Cadence, Cisco, Cognition, CrowdStrike, Dassault Systèmes, Deloitte, EY, Hugging Face, IBM, Microsoft, Palantir, Palo Alto Networks, Perplexity, ServiceNow, Siemens, Synopsys and others. NVIDIA also said robotics companies including Figure, Gecko Robotics and Skild AI are using OpenShell in work involving autonomous systems. Financial services organisations including Citi and JPMorganChase are collaborating with NVIDIA on open-source agent security technologies, while energy companies including Hitachi Energy, EPRI, NextEra Energy, Quanta Services, Schneider Electric, Siemens Energy and Worley are among organisations working with the platform. Infrastructure software companies including Canonical, SUSE and Red Hat are also integrating OpenShell and related technologies into their platforms. The NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform is positioned by the company as an open approach to applying security and governance controls across the AI agent stack, rather than relying solely on controls within individual AI models or applications.

NVIDIA unveils Agent Safety Platform backed by 100+ partners.

NVIDIA unveils Agent Safety Platform backed by 100+ partners. September 28, 2026 CEO Jensen Huang describes the platform as "the foundation of the AI economy", with Anthropic, Salesforce and other tech leaders embedding NVIDIA controls More than 100 companies, researchers and public-sector organisations are using NVIDIA's new Open Agent Safety Platform, an initiative designed to improve AI security from agent testing to deployment. The chipmaker launched the platform to help developers contain AI agents and prevent them from accessing unauthorised systems, marking a shift in AI agent safety away from the individual model layer and directly into the underlying infrastructure layer. The platform provides total oversight and management at every single level of technology. It oversees the software programs that act as agents, the physical servers and processing power that run those programs, and the automated machinery or devices that physically perform real-world tasks. To keep those agents safe and under control, the system includes a feature called NVIDIA OpenShell, which establishes a safe, locked-down boundary around the AI agents as they work, enforcing strict safety rules regardless of whether the underlying AI model is open-source or proprietary. The system's design also integrates NVIDIA Sentry, a specialised monitoring security guard that runs directly on NVIDIA BlueField-4 DPUs - dedicated processing chips built specifically for managing network and security tasks. Sentry delivers in-silicon security enforcement, meaning its security rules are embedded into the hardware itself. If a digital AI agent tries to step outside its authorised software boundaries, Sentry instantly locks down and quarantines the agent in a matter of milliseconds. "Artificial intelligence is extraordinary technology that will advance discovery, productivity, security, health, and prosperity for generations to come," writes Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, on X. "But its full promise can only be realised when people have confidence that AI is being built to be safe and deployed with wisdom and responsibility. "This is bigger than a single product. It's the beginning of an open ecosystem to build the trust layer for safe agent systems. "Together, Technology Magazine is building the foundation of the AI economy. "Trust and innovation are not in conflict. Safety is how trust is earned. We must build not only the most capable AI, but the most trusted AI, so that this extraordinary technology can realise its enormous promise for the world." AI partners enforce external guardrails. The AI firms collaborating with NVIDIA include Anthropic, SpaceXAI and Scale AI. Anthropic is integrating its Claude Managed Agents with NVIDIA's OpenShell software and BlueField hardware. This creates an isolated sandbox that separates agent task reasoning from sandbox execution, enforcing strict security boundaries and access controls for enterprise AI workloads. This is bigger than a single product. It's the beginning of an open ecosystem to build the trust layer for safe agent systems. Jensen Huang, CEO, NVIDIA Meanwhile, SpaceXAI employs the NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform to establish external safety boundaries for its Grok models and Cursor coding agents. This ensures strict operational limits are enforced outside the model whenever agents perform real-world coding and autonomous tasks. Plus, Scale AI integrates technologies from the NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform into the agentic infrastructure layer of its Scale GenAI Portfolio. "We support agentic security with clear boundaries that define what agents can do, and controls that keep them operating within those permissions," says Francis deSouza, CEO of Scale AI. Enforcing real-world governance across global enterprise systems. To give enterprise teams direct visibility and manual control over autonomous workflows, Salesforce has connected NVIDIA OpenShell directly into Slack. This allows workers to monitor agent actions, inspect security audit logs, and greenlight or deny high-privilege permission requests from within their everyday chat interface. This integration is only part of a broader industry movement with more than 100 enterprise software, security and consulting leaders - including Cisco, CrowdStrike, Deloitte, Microsoft, Palantir and Palo Alto Networks - have aligned behind NVIDIA's Open Agent Safety Platform architecture. Beyond software applications, physical autonomous systems are embedding these safeguards directly into real-world operations. Robotics pioneers including Gecko Robotics, Figure and Skild AI are building on OpenShell to apply strict safety boundaries to physical machinery and autonomous hardware. The push for standardised agent security is also gaining rapid traction across tightly regulated sectors: * Financial services: Banking institutions Citi and JPMorganChase are collaborating with NVIDIA to advance shared, open-source safety frameworks for financial workflows. * Critical energy infrastructure: Major energy and grid operators - including Hitachi Energy, EPRI, NextEra Energy, Quanta Services, SPP, Schneider Electric, Siemens Energy and Worley - are implementing the NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform to safeguard utility and power infrastructure. * Operating systems and OS infrastructure: Linux and enterprise OS leaders Canonical, SUSE and Red Hat are integrating the platform natively into their operating systems. * Data centre and cloud infrastructure: Hardware, cloud, and hosting providers - including Baseten, Cisco, CoreWeave, Dell Technologies, GMI Cloud, HPE, HP Inc., Irregular, Lenovo, Microsoft, Nebius, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Supermicro and Together AI - are deploying infrastructure stacks optimised to support and run the Open Agent Safety Platform securely. "The internet was built on open source, open research, and people who believe that the internet could change the course of humanity," reads an NVIDIA blog on the Open Agent Safety Platform, written by NVIDIA software engineers and product directors. "Adding trust turned a great concept into a great economy. The agent economy, and the next set of great companies, is waiting for the same layer. And we can build it the same way, together." Alexandr Wang reflects Gen Z style - not a fashion icon, just a typical guy.

Alexandr Wang reflects Gen Z style - not a fashion icon, just a typical guy. Silicon Valley has long had its unofficial uniforms: Steve Jobs's iconic black turtleneck, Mark Zuckerberg's unbranded gray or white T-shirts, and the hoodie culture of countless startup founders. At this year's Meta Connect, however, Alexandr Wang, the 29-year-old CEO of AI firm Scale AI, sparked conversation across the tech world not with his software, but with his fashion. Wang's choice of attire - a camouflage print T-shirt featuring a deer, matching Crocs, joggers, a pronounced mullet haircut, and rimless glasses - has stood out as a signal of generational and cultural shift in tech's style. For many Silicon Valley veterans, Wang's outfit seems almost performative, especially when compared to the minimalism practiced by past tech icons. But to Gen Z and younger founders, his look reads as completely ordinary. Thrifting has become a cultural marker for many in the 20s-to-30s age bracket, particularly in coastal urban enclaves. Wang reportedly sourced his deer-print shirt from a Santa Cruz thrift store for $30 - a price tag some consider high for used clothing, but not uncommon in certain regions of Northern California. As the graphics on his shirt nod to Lake Tahoe and its local culture, those familiar with the area note that such designs are prevalent on everything from apparel to bumper stickers. Wang's fashion choices go beyond personal preference, aligning with broader Gen Z trends. According to Piper Sandler's research, Crocs were ranked as the No. 6 footwear brand among teens in 2023, and the company has since had its first billion-dollar revenue quarter. The thrifted, mismatched aesthetic - combining elements of "gorp core" outdoor wear, ironic statement tees, and "ugly" footwear - reflects Gen Z's embrace of subversive or ironic fashion. Last month, The New York Times even critiqued the generation's style in an op-ed titled "Gen Z Dresses Like They've Never Worn Clothes Before". Industry observers say Wang's look is not just about personal comfort but carries a message. Daniel James Cole, a fashion historian at New York University, notes that the combination of thrifted streetwear and Crocs mirrors what he sees among college students aiming to highlight their age and subcultural identity. Others, like Sofia Jiang of the workwear brand SofSet, see the outfit as emblematic of downtown creative communities, while Amina Salahou, founder of global production network Les Adore, interprets it as signaling to fellow developers that Wang remains rooted in founder culture, not corporate bureaucracy. While some online have speculated that Wang's T-shirt may in fact be a designer piece, Wang has insisted it was sourced secondhand for under $30. Attempts to confirm these claims with Meta and Wang went unanswered. Nonetheless, many believe his explanation, pointing to the prevalence of similar shirts in Northern California thrift shops. As clothing choices in the tech sector continue to evolve, Wang's appearance at Meta Connect could mark the latest shift away from the business-casual era ushered in by Zuckerberg. Where formal suits once signified legitimacy, thrift-culture outfits may now represent the vanguard of founder authenticity and cultural resonance with younger, creative talent. For now, it seems the Gen Z "off-duty uniform" - no matter how jarring to previous generations - will only become more common in the halls of Big Tech and beyond. Technology
