Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • A valid driver's license and eligibility for coverage under the College's authorized driver policy are required to drive college-owned vehicles.
  • Knowledge of athletics in a liberal arts college environment and proven experience recruiting student-athletes to highly selective institutions are required.
  • Strong administrative, interpersonal, computer, and technology skills are required.
  • Appropriate First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and automated external defibrillator certifications are required, or the employee must be willing to complete them upon hire if working independently with student-athletes.
  • Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and associated professional software such as internet research and menu-driven databases is required.
  • The ability to use equipment to assess and improve department systems and processes while maintaining confidentiality is required.
  • Effective, accurate, and clear verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, and customer service communication skills are required.
  • The ability to follow written and verbal instructions and ask questions for clarification is required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, accuracy, and attention to detail are required.
  • The employee must be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • The employee must pass a full consumer background check and meet the requirements for operating a college vehicle.
  • The employee must be willing to work variable hours, including holidays, weekends, and evenings, and to travel.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Swimming and Diving Coach with developing and implementing training and instruction for practices and competitions.
  • Organize and conduct team training and practices.
  • Provide administrative support for the sports program, including completing paperwork, coordinating team travel logistics, creating practice plans, and supporting scholar-athlete and team development.
  • Collaborate with CMS Athletics staff in sports medicine, business operations, compliance, equipment, facilities, and events.
  • Recruit and retain academically qualified student-athletes for Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps Colleges.
  • Comply with NCAA Division III, CMS Athletics, and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rules and guidelines, and report violations or concerns to the CMS Compliance Department.
  • Maintain required training and certifications, including concussion management, mental health resources, and sexual violence prevention.
  • Represent the CMS Athletic Department and swimming and diving programs positively within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and at regional and national levels.
  • Teach, mentor, and inspire students from a broad range of backgrounds.
  • Perform additional administrative responsibilities assigned by the Head Coach.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous collegiate participation and coaching experience are preferred.
  • Experience recruiting academically focused scholar-athletes is preferred.
