Requirements
- An RN diploma, Associate’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required.
- An active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
- Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
- Prior cardiac nursing experience is strongly recommended.
- Comfort using electronic medical records is required.
- Strong organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills are required.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient care skills are required.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with providers and clinical staff is required.
Responsibilities
- Provide in-person and phone-based clinical care for patients throughout their cardiac care journey.
- Conduct blood pressure follow-up visits.
- Review medications and provide medication education.
- Perform and review electrocardiograms.
- Assess and support walk-in symptomatic patients.
- Conduct incoming and outgoing clinical calls for triage and phone assessments.
- Review cardiac testing and laboratory results and communicate treatment plans according to provider direction.
- Document care accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Provide patient education and reinforce care plans.
- Perform cardiac stress testing as part of cross-training and skill expansion.
- Apply heart monitors as part of cross-training and skill expansion.
- Support the Coumadin clinic.
- Assist ultrasound technicians with bubble studies and enhanced echocardiography imaging agents.
- Practice at a competent level using the nursing process to deliver safe, evidence-based care.
- Perform assessment, care planning, implementation, care coordination, patient education, evaluation, ethical practice, collaboration, quality improvement, and patient-centered communication.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations and patient care.
Desired Qualifications
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is preferred.
- Prior cardiac nursing experience is strongly recommended.
