Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant certificate or diploma program is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, is required.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • A current Nevada Medical Laboratory Personnel license is required; if unavailable at hire, it must be obtained within 30 days and renewed before expiration.
  • Fire Life Safety Training certification is required; if unavailable at hire, it must be obtained within 30 days and renewed before expiration. This requirement applies within Los Angeles City only.
Responsibilities
  • Determine patient care needs and direct patients accordingly.
  • Prepare patient charts before appointments, including required X-rays and laboratory work, arrange special equipment, set up examination rooms, assist physicians with examinations, and monitor patient flow.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and obtain and record vital signs.
  • Keep health care delivery areas stocked, organized, cleaned, and disinfected.
  • Maintain files and records; oversee equipment and office-supply inventory; photocopy, collate, fax, mail, and read and prioritize incoming mail, handling or routing it as appropriate.
  • Ensure physician orders for medications and treatments are implemented by the appropriate staff.
  • Provide coverage and relief for coworkers and communicate patient status during coverage.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and procedures.
  • Record patient information in charts and electronic health records according to Joint Commission standards.
  • Obtain blood specimens by venipuncture or capillary methods in response to clinician testing requests, considering patient age appropriately.
  • Receive and screen specimens for acceptability according to established guidelines.
  • Process, distribute, or package all received specimens.
  • Schedule diagnostic tests ordered by physicians as needed.
  • Perform office and clerical duties and maintain patient privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
  • Maintain a safe environment in accordance with applicable standards, policies, and safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control policies.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience, with combined education and experience accepted as a substitute for minimum experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with word processing, GECB, COR, Cerner, ProSolv, and scheduling software.
