Requirements
  • One to three years of experience working with children and youth.
  • Familiarity with the Child Care and Early Years Act and licensing standards.
  • A clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid certification, CPR Level C certification, and updated immunization records are required.
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators, or current pursuit of or interest in pursuing an Early Childhood Education diploma, or an alternative childcare designation eligible for Director’s Approval, such as Child and Youth, Recreation and Leisure, or Ontario Certified Teachers – Primary and Junior.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead interest-based and play-based activities that reflect children’s unique interests and promote their physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
  • Maintain active supervision of children while remaining engaged in play.
  • Document children’s learning progress through observation, reflection, and research questions.
  • Create and maintain an environment that protects children’s health, safety, and well-being.
  • Assist children with diapering, dressing, and eating habits.
  • Foster strong relationships with families and involve them in the learning process.
  • Collaborate with coworkers, families, and community partners to create a supportive environment.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional learning opportunities, and staff training opportunities.
  • Assist with housekeeping duties within the program.
  • Follow Compass Early Learning and Care, Child Care and Early Years Act, and Ministry of Education policies and procedures.
