Requirements
  • Professional Engineer status with the Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in transmission line design.
  • Strong proficiency with PLS CADD, PLS POLE, PLS TOWER, and PLS CAISSON.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple concurrent projects, establish clear schedules, and meet commitments.
  • Ability to lead technical workstreams and coordinate multidisciplinary stakeholders to deliver safe, compliant, high-quality outcomes.
  • Ability to build working relationships with consultants and contractors, provide clear direction, and ensure good-quality work.
  • Engineering judgment and decision-making capability in ambiguous or complex situations, including escalation when appropriate.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support, guidance, and expertise throughout the full project cycle, including system planning, routing and siting, stakeholder engagement, regulatory work, estimating, engineering and design, procurement, scheduling, construction, commissioning, and asset management.
  • Manage all technical aspects of transmission line design projects, including structural design and analysis, foundation design, and overhead system design for new lines, rebuilds or upgrades, relocations, and emergency response.
  • Conduct engineering design and analysis for transmission line design, including survey and LiDAR data processing, structure, conductor, and insulator optimization, DRD and loading tree design, PLS CADD, PLS POLE, PLS TOWER, and PLS CAISSON analysis, construction coordination, and supervision.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert for transmission line projects and provide technical input to Asset Management, System Planning, Regulatory, Standards, the Office of the Chief Engineer, and other ENMAX groups.
  • Generate and review project-related engineering and technical documents, including NID documents, functional specifications, material and construction specifications, project scope, construction and design scopes of work, bills of material, and tender packages.
  • Oversee project scope and the quality of engineering deliverables from internal and external engineering consultants, ensuring applicable engineering, industry, ENMAX standards, codes, regulations, and public-safety requirements are applied.
  • Identify, explore, and propose improvements to technical practices, components, and processes for team-lead and manager review.
  • Work with internal and external customers and technical experts to determine complete project scope for complex projects, including technical deliverables, interdependencies, and technical risks.
  • Provide guidance to stakeholders reviewing construction Requests for Information and respond through Field Instructions or direct construction support on site.
  • Prioritize the safety of staff, contractors, and the public in all work.
  • Communicate with internal teams and external partners to keep project stakeholders aligned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with high-voltage underground lines rated 138 kV or higher.
  • Utility work experience.
  • Experience with regulatory application filings.
  • Experience in stakeholder-engagement discussions.
