Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
  • A Michigan Professional Engineer license is required, or the ability to obtain one.
  • At least 1 year of project management experience is required.
  • At least 10 years of relevant civil engineering experience in site development is required, including site layout, grading, sewer and other utility design, pavement design, permitting, budgeting, jurisdictional agency interaction, and other aspects of site development.
  • Working knowledge of codes, regulations, and standards applicable to the design and construction of major site development projects in Michigan is required.
  • Working knowledge of computer software used for civil engineering design and management, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, is required.
  • The role requires the ability to manage staff and multidisciplinary projects.
  • The role requires effective written and verbal communication, independent judgment, problem-solving, engineering judgment, attention to detail, financial management, conflict resolution, client satisfaction, prioritization, and management of concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • The role requires the ability to work in a teamwork environment and motivate others.
  • The role requires the physical ability to perform occasional standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, and lifting or moving objects up to 25 pounds.
  • The role requires availability Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with overtime as required.
  • Local travel to job sites is required during the business day.
Responsibilities
  • Consult with clients to determine site requirements and provide information about design, specifications, materials, equipment, estimated costs, and approval timelines.
  • Lead or support the development of project proposals.
  • Define project tasks, schedules, and resource requirements.
  • Establish project goals and assist with achieving quality assurance and quality control goals.
  • Provide leadership and management of day-to-day operational activities for preparing civil engineering and site work design drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with project architects, landscape architects, geotechnical engineers, and other technical staff for project development and delivery.
  • Manage project budgets and analyze project profitability, revenue, margins, billing rates, and utilization.
  • Facilitate project team meetings and evaluate projects.
  • Prepare client billing information and manage collections on outstanding accounts receivable balances.
  • Identify additional scope and revenue opportunities related to projects and participate in business development activities.
  • Prepare or review and sign project contracts and change orders, and manage project scope.
  • Maintain ongoing project-related communication with clients.
  • Mentor staff and cultivate strong working relationships with clients.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with healthcare, education, residential, commercial, or industrial land development projects is preferred.
