Disney pitches Paramount, Universal on Imax's big-screen rival.

Disney pitches Paramount, Universal on Imax's big-screen rival. About 5,500 screens globally - about three times the number of Imax venues - meet the standards for Infinity Vision Bloomberg News Thomas Buckley Published Oct 08, 2026 Walt Disney Co. has held talks with other studios about using its new brand for large-screen movie formats, often described as a competitor to Imax Corp., to market their films, according to people familiar with the matter. Disney has met with Skydance Corp.'s Paramount Pictures, Comcast Corp.'s Universal Pictures, Lionsgate Studios Corp. and Sony Pictures Entertainment to discuss Infinity Vision - a certification that unites hundreds of existing theater chains' large-screen formats like AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc.'s XL and Cinemark Holdings Inc.'s XD under one brand - said the people, who asked to not be identified because the discussions were private. Story continues below This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. The studios Disney has spoken with so far have shown early interest in the initiative, the people said. Some are waiting to assess the impact of Infinity Vision's marketing on Disney's Avengers: Doomsday, which opens the weekend of Dec. 18. Breaking business news, incisive views, must-reads and market signals. Weekdays by 9 a.m. Interested in more newsletters? Browse here. The inclusion of the presentation standard in the marketing for blockbuster movies from Hollywood's major studios would lend credibility to the nascent brand. In April, Disney partnered with movie theatre chains to debut Infinity Vision, which required auditoriums to meet standards including a screen width of around 50-feet, laser projection, and the 7.1 surround-sound system from Dolby Laboratories Inc., Bloomberg reported at the time. About 5,500 screens globally - about three times the number of Imax venues - meet the standards for Infinity Vision. Disney's ambition to grow the label is in part the result of the company's superhero film Avengers: Doomsday not having exclusive access to Imax's screens. Imax has an agreement in place to screen Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three from Skydance's Warner Bros. film studio, which opens the same weekend. Story continues below This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. The development of Infinity Vision speaks to the strength of Imax, which has become an increasingly crucial component in the making and marketing of Hollywood blockbusters. The company, founded in 1967, works directly with filmmakers and proprietary cameras to capture exceptional detail suitable for large screens. Imax also licenses its technology to cinema chains, and offers round-the-clock quality monitoring and support. Studios regularly set release dates based on how many Imax screens are available to show their films. This advertisement has not loaded yet. Disney+ to stream upcoming Super Bowl.

Disney+ to stream upcoming Super Bowl. 8 hours ago 54 Disney announced Wednesday that its streaming service Disney+ will air the upcoming Super Bowl in February. The 2027 championship game, as well as two Monday Night Football games leading up to the Super Bowl, will be available to all Disney+ subscribers in the U.S. Disney had previously announced that its ESPN sports division would produce the Super Bowl in 2027 for the first time ever. The game will air on ESPN and Disney's broadcast network, ABC. Interest in the upcoming Super Bowl is already high. Disney said on its most recent earnings call that ad spots for the game are already sold out, the earliest sellout in Super Bowl history, according to a press release. The announcement is the latest move in Disney's efforts to expand its live sports streaming offerings. The media company last year launched a standalone ESPN streaming service, bringing the content outside the cable bundle. In August, Disney announced that Formula E - the open-wheel racing championship for electric cars - will be available to Disney+ subscribers beginning Dec. 18. Other streamers are also using live sports to bolster their portfolios. CNBC reported last week that Alphabet's YouTube is actively searching for additional live sports rights. YouTube already pays roughly $2 billion annually for the rights to "NFL Sunday Ticket," which will last until the end of the 2029-30 season. Netflix will air five NFL games during the 2026-27 season. Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said in a CNBC interview last month that the company would be open to acquiring the rights to international NFL games if they become available.

Disney's 'Capturing Life, Creating Character' exhibition is going on the road.

Disney's 'Capturing Life, Creating Character' exhibition is going on the road. Animation is an artistic medium unique among its proverbial contemporaries in that it's an entirely manual creation, perhaps our purest expression of human creativity. Whether drawn by hand or crafted on a computer, animation is the capture of images not physical, but imagined, an art form not bound by the restrictions of the natural world. That said, there's still obvious inspiration taken from the physical world while crafting settings and stories entirely handmade. Capturing Life, Creating Character: The Art of Live-Action Reference celebrates such inspiration, and the exhibition will debut at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History next month. 'Capturing Life, Creating Character' exhibit coming to Fort Worth. Curated by The Walt Disney Archives, the experience includes "photographs, documents, objects, videos, interactive pieces, photo opportunities, as well as an audio guide" that will help guests "discover how Disney animators use live-action performers, props, and sets as visual references to bring the movement and expressions of some iconic characters and scenes to life." There will also be an "interactive experience using toy dolls" to demonstrate how certain movements interact with fabric and hair. Visitors will also see how select real-world references translated to animated scenes, "offering a unique behind-the-scenes look at these classic films." The exhibit will run at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History from November 14, 2026, through February 14, 2027. It will be displayed in the Havener Gallery. Access will be included with admission. Ticket prices are as follows: * $16 for adults * $14 for seniors * $12 for juniors (ages 3-11) * $0 for children under two years old More about the experience. "Today, the Walt Disney Archives is proud to bring its newest exhibition to Fort Worth, celebrating the pioneering use of character reference that helped bring Snow White and countless beloved films to life, and continues to inspire Disney animation to this day," Jesse Cannady, Senior Manager of Exhibitions & Loans at Walt Disney Archives, said of Capturing Life, Creating Character, per D23. "Together with the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, we look forward to sparking curiosity and imagination in visitors of all ages." Capturing Life, Creating Character: The Art of Live-Action Reference debuted in August as part of the festivities surrounding D23. It was accessible at the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center.
