About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in engineering, data engineering, analytics engineering, or artificial intelligence and machine learning roles, with direct pharmaceutical or life sciences client exposure across a substantial portion of that tenure.
  • Mandatory pharmaceutical domain experience, including commercial expertise in sales force effectiveness, incentive compensation design, market access, omnichannel, key account management, or patient services, or clinical expertise in trial operations, CDASH/SDTM, site analytics, real-world evidence, health economics and outcomes research, or regulatory data.
  • Experience shipping production artificial intelligence systems, including large language model agents, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, multi-agent workflows, or clinical artificial intelligence systems used by real users in regulated environments.
  • Strong foundations in Python, SQL, cloud infrastructure using AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, data pipeline architecture, and application programming interface design.
  • Depth on at least one pharmaceutical artificial intelligence platform: Databricks, Snowflake, AWS Bedrock, or the Claude and Anthropic application programming interface stack, with working fluency across the others.
  • Ability to operate directly with senior client stakeholders by scoping ambiguous problems, managing technical expectations, presenting architecture decisions to non-technical executives, and working independently.
  • Experience working in sprint-based, high-velocity delivery cycles where scope is defined, engineered, and shipped within weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Embed directly within pharmaceutical client organizations and own the end-to-end design, build, and deployment of production artificial intelligence systems on client infrastructure.
  • Lead the technical workstream and direct teams of Agent Pipeline Engineers and AI-Augmented Engineers under the role’s architecture and delivery ownership.
  • Manage the technical client relationship with Director, Vice President, and Chief Data Officer stakeholders by scoping problems, presenting architecture trade-offs, defending design decisions, and translating technical outcomes into business language.
  • Architect multi-agent artificial intelligence systems spanning orchestration patterns, tool and function integration, retrieval-augmented generation, memory architectures, human-in-the-loop design, evaluation pipelines, and production machine learning operations.
  • Build on Databricks, Delta Lake, Mosaic AI, Genie, Snowflake, Snowpark, Cortex AI, Cortex Analyst, AWS, Bedrock Agents, SageMaker, and the Claude and Anthropic application programming interface stack with Model Context Protocol.
  • Design and implement artificial intelligence evaluation frameworks for regulated pharmaceutical environments, including probabilistic quality thresholds, RAGAS, large language model as judge, adversarial red-teaming, and audit-trail-compliant output governance.
  • Ensure systems are observable, maintainable, secure, and compliant with pharmaceutical data governance requirements, including HIPAA, GDPR, and applicable FDA artificial intelligence and machine learning guidance.
  • Monitor the agentic artificial intelligence ecosystem and translate emerging capabilities into deployment-relevant technical decisions.
  • Translate pharmaceutical commercial and clinical business problems into artificial intelligence-solvable architectures.
  • Validate artificial intelligence outputs against pharmaceutical business logic and commercial or clinical norms so they are accurate, domain-defensible, and explainable to end users.
  • Connect client business problems to technical solutions and eliminate scoping ambiguity that can delay pharmaceutical artificial intelligence deployments.
  • Contribute pharma artificial intelligence deployment patterns, reference architectures, and reusable accelerators to Axtria’s institutional knowledge base.
  • Identify opportunities to extend scope within existing client engagements through additional commercial or clinical artificial intelligence workstreams.
  • Mentor junior Forward Deployment Engineers and AI-Augmented Engineers and contribute to technical standards and delivery methodology.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a technology consulting, systems integrator, or artificial intelligence services firm serving pharmaceutical or life sciences clients, specifically in delivery roles rather than advisory roles.
  • Experience leading engineering teams of at least three people across concurrent artificial intelligence workstreams with accountability for technical quality and delivery timelines.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence governance frameworks, responsible artificial intelligence design, FDA artificial intelligence and machine learning Software as a Medical Device guidance, ICH guidelines applicable to artificial intelligence-generated evidence, and GxP data integrity requirements.
  • Industry certification such as AWS Certified AI Practitioner, Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer Associate, SnowPro Advanced Data Engineer, or Claude Certified Architect Foundations.
