About the company

Citadel is an alternative investment manager and hedge fund that oversees capital for institutional clients like pension funds, endowments, and sovereign wealth funds. It uses a team of traders to invest in global financial markets, aiming to grow client assets through speculative opportunities and risk-taking. The firm earns money mainly through performance fees (a share of profits) and management fees (a share of assets under management). Citadel differentiates itself by its track record of profitability, large assets under management, and its focus on improving transparency and resiliency in markets such as the U.S. Treasury market, along with strong risk management and civic leadership. Its goal is to generate high returns for clients while helping maintain fair, efficient markets and expanding its client base and assets under management under leadership from Ken Griffin.

What believers are saying

  • Reuters on September 4, 2026 reported Citadel seeking U.S. shale oil assets.
  • Alexey Poyarkov’s Irvine team targets global-equity systematic trading and AI-lab hiring.
  • Miami’s Brickell tower plans signal long-term commitment and attract recruiting prestige.

What critics are saying

  • Chris Foster left Citadel in September 2026, exposing dependence on star commodity PMs.
  • Physical asset acquisitions add drilling, labor, and permitting risk before 2027 integration.
  • Ken Griffin concentration risk is existential: one wrong succession or legal shock destabilizes Citadel.

HRT hired Citadel's head of weather engineering in Chicago.

HRT hired Citadel's head of weather engineering in Chicago. 3 hours ago Two things are well known about Citadel. Firstly, it has one of the best weather forecasting teams in the hedge fund industry. Secondly, it has moved its head office from Chicago to Miami. Now, one of its top weather forecasters in Chicago has moved to Hudson River Trading's (HRT) Chicago office. Deron Roche, who joined Citadel in 2002 and was latterly titled 'Heather of Weather engineering, commodities, has moved to HRT as head of weather. Writing on LinkedIn, Roche said he'll be, "building at the intersection of weather, data, technology and markets." Roche's departure from Citadel follows that of another Chicago-based weather-focused engineer, Alex Alifimoff. Alifimoff says on LinkedIn that he is now at Point72 in Connecticut, where he is 'head of AI weather." Predicting the weather is an integral part of trading natural gas and commodities. Adams Street names Rina Kozlowski partner and head of human resources.

Adams Street names Rina Kozlowski partner and head of human resources. October 5, 2026 Rina Kozlowski Adams Street Partners has named former Citadel executive Rina Kozlowski partner and head of human resources, adding a senior talent leader as the $76 billion private markets investment firm continues to expand its global platform. Kozlowski's appointment became effective October 1, 2026. Based in Chicago, she will lead Adams Street's global human resources organization and join the firm's Operating Committee. Her responsibilities include talent strategy and acquisition, organizational development, compensation and benefits. The role places Kozlowski at the center of Adams Street's efforts to build the workforce and organizational capabilities supporting its growth across private equity, private credit and other private markets strategies. "Rina is an accomplished human resources leader with deep experience building high-performing teams and strong cultures inside complex, fast-growing organizations," said Mike Kurlander, partner and chief financial officer/chief operating officer at Adams Street. Kozlowski joins Adams Street after nearly a decade at Citadel, where she most recently served as head of people for Quantitative Strategies. In that position, she advised senior leadership on talent, organizational strategy and culture for a global team. Earlier in her career, Kozlowski held human resources leadership positions at KCG Holdings, formerly GETCO and Knight Capital, as well as McKinsey & Company and Bain & Company. Her background spans financial services, investment management and professional services organizations where recruiting, developing and retaining specialized talent are important components of operating strategy. At Adams Street, Kozlowski takes responsibility for human resources as the employee-owned firm expands a platform that now operates from 15 offices globally. The company manages a broad range of private markets investment solutions, including private equity and private credit strategies for institutional investors, growth capital investments and evergreen vehicles providing access to multiple private market strategies. It also offers private markets solutions for wealth advisors. That expansion increases the organizational demands around recruiting, compensation, leadership development and coordination across investment and operating teams in multiple geographies. Kozlowski said she plans to work with senior leadership across Adams Street as the firm builds on its existing culture while continuing its global expansion. "I am excited to join the team and to partner with leadership across the firm to build on that strong foundation as Adams Street continues to grow globally," she said. Kozlowski succeeds Carolyn Flanagan, partner and head of human resources, who will retire at the end of 2026 after 20 years with Adams Street. Flanagan will remain actively involved through year-end to support the transition, providing several months of overlap between the incoming and outgoing HR leaders. "Carolyn has made significant contributions to Adams Street and to our culture over the past two decades," said Jeff Diehl, managing partner and head of investments. "We are grateful for her leadership, partnership, and dedication to our people." The planned transition provides continuity for a function that becomes increasingly important as investment firms broaden their strategies, client bases and geographic footprints. Human resources leadership in that environment extends beyond hiring to organizational design, succession planning, compensation structures and developing specialized investment and operating talent. Adams Street has more than 50 years of private markets experience and is 100% employee-owned. With more than $76 billion in assets under management, the firm serves institutional investors and wealth management channels through investment strategies spanning different areas of the private markets. Kozlowski's appointment adds experience from several talent-intensive financial and professional services organizations as Adams Street aligns its global workforce and leadership development with the continued expansion of its investment platform.
