Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management, or equivalent training or experience in construction estimating.
- At least 5 years of preconstruction and estimating experience for commercial concrete projects valued at $10 million or more.
- Successful completion of classes, training, or experience in cost estimating, cost modeling, cost engineering, and constructability, with the ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding.
- Solid technical knowledge of building construction means, methods, and systems, including a complete understanding of all trades and work disciplines.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret building plans, construction contracts, and project specifications.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to plan and prioritize objectives to achieve high-quality results.
- Collaborative and consistent communication skills, including emotional awareness, active listening, respectful language, constructive feedback, and collaborative problem solving.
- Proficiency with Office 365, including Excel, Project, Word, and Outlook, and with Procore and OnCenter Software for managing estimate information.
- Ability to achieve proficiency with recent technology solutions.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and perform effectively under project constraints and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with integrity.
- Commitment to a strong safety culture and knowledge of how to identify general safety hazards anticipated for the scope of work being bid and incorporate costs for preventative and protective measures into estimates.
- Willingness to pursue related educational and training opportunities to improve job performance.
Responsibilities
- Provide accurate quantity take-offs, job analysis, and pricing to produce job estimates for company bids and negotiations.
- Prepare bid documents needed to obtain vendor and subcontractor pricing for scopes of work included in bid packages.
- Prepare and maintain the company estimate log and track the status of company and competitor bids to evaluate market conditions and bid strategies.
- Prepare and maintain historical cost data to evaluate company labor production and recommend adjustments for profitability and competitive advantage.
- Assess market conditions, completion time, material and equipment expenses, trade contractor capabilities, and risk management measures.
- Collaborate with internal and external project teams to build productive and enduring relationships.
- Manage and resolve unexpected challenges using resourceful problem-solving.
- Use technology systems to provide a client experience.
- Promote the company's Safety for Life mission, vision, and values to coworkers and trade partners.
- Identify safety hazards anticipated for bid scopes and incorporate preventative and protective measure costs into estimates.
