Snap Inc. builds camera-based social media and AR experiences centered on Snapchat, a multimedia messaging app where messages disappear, with features like Stories and Discover. Its hardware, Spectacles, captures video and photos from the wearer’s perspective and ties into Snapchat. The app earns primarily from advertising, offering Snap Ads and AR Sponsored Lenses and Filters, plus revenue from Spectacles sales. The goal is to help people express themselves, connect in moments, and reach a young audience while growing ad and product revenue through a camera-first platform.

Snap stock falls 10% from August high, but history warns against buying the dip

Snap stock has fallen about 10% from its late-August high to around $5.31, prompting investor interest. However, historical data shows limited success for dip buyers. Since 2017, Snap experienced 20 separate drops of 20% or more within 30 trading days. Of the 18 cases with a full year of data, only 5 ended higher twelve months later, with a median loss of 22%. The company shows some positive fundamentals, with revenue up 12.6% over the trailing twelve months. Second-quarter 2024 revenue rose 19% to $1.6 billion, though advertising grew just 9%. Other revenue streams, including Snapchat+ and subscription services, surged 85% to $316 million, though they remain the smallest segment.

Snapchat launches event-planning features to challenge Partiful

Snapchat has launched Snapchat Plans, a new suite of event-planning features that enables users to create, share and manage real-world gatherings with friends. The tool allows users to send invitations and track event details such as time, location and attendees in one place. Users can create events by adding a title, selecting a date and time, and inviting up to 200 friends. Invitations are delivered directly in one-on-one chats, and guests can RSVP with "Going", "Maybe" or "Can't Go". A new "My Plans" section on profiles lets users browse current, upcoming and past events. The move positions Snapchat as a competitor to Partiful, a popular digital invitation platform, and Apple's Invites app. All events are private and invite-only.

The leadership change comes as Snap looks to sustain the recent growth of its advertising business globally, including in India, its largest user market. Snap has elevated EMEA president Ronan Harris as chief commercial officer to oversee its global advertising sales and go-to-market operations. Former Meta India head and Hotstar CEO Ajit Mohan is stepping down as the CBO of Snapchat parent Snap after a four-year stint. Snap said in a regulatory filing that Mohan's departure is expected to take effect on December 31, 2026.

Snap's chief business officer Ajit Mohan steps down after four years

Snap's chief business officer Ajit Mohan is stepping down after four years, citing family reasons, and will return to Singapore where his family has remained. Mohan helped rebuild Snap's advertising business around performance advertising and direct response ads during his tenure. Ronan Harris will succeed him as chief commercial officer. The leadership transition occurs as Snap's advertising business faces challenges. In February, the company forecast revenue below estimates due to advertising competition, despite posting stronger holiday-quarter results. Snap, which owns the messaging app Snapchat, has been navigating a competitive advertising landscape whilst working to strengthen its commercial operations.

Snap appoints Ronan Harris as chief commercial officer amid strong ad growth

Snap has promoted Ronan Harris, its president of EMEA, to chief commercial officer, replacing outgoing chief business officer Ajit Mohan. Harris, who joined Snap in 2022, will oversee all ad sales and go-to-market efforts, reporting directly to CEO Evan Spiegel. The move comes as Snap experiences strong growth, with Q2 revenue up 19% year over year. Under Harris' leadership, Snap achieved 10 consecutive quarters of double-digit revenue growth in Europe, its second-largest market. The company is restructuring to emphasise engineering and ad products, with ad product moving under engineering. Snap is approaching 1 billion global users and will showcase its new Specs AR glasses in California next week.
