Responsibilities
  • Provide attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous service to guests, managers, and fellow employees at all times.
  • Respond attentively, courteously, and efficiently to guest requests, problems, complaints, and accidents received through reservations, comment cards, letters, or phone calls, and follow up to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Motivate, coach, counsel, and discipline housekeeping personnel according to hotel standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Standard of the Week training and use the hotel's steps for effective training.
  • Maintain a regularly scheduled cleaning program, including floor care, hard cleaning, and mattress flipping, and maintain a detailed checklist for each position.
  • Assist in maintaining and controlling housekeeping equipment.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with corporate risk-management standards, including material safety data sheets and Hazard Communication requirements.
  • Ensure large guestroom turns are managed efficiently.
  • Ensure consistent departmental opening and closing procedures.
  • Carry a pager at all times.
  • Prepare and conduct housekeeping interviews as required and follow the hotel's hiring procedures.
  • Develop employee morale and ensure training of housekeeping personnel.
  • Inspect rooms daily and inspect some rooms daily with supervisors.
  • Assist the Director of Housekeeping in inspecting all VIP rooms before arrival.
  • Ensure public areas, guest rooms, and back-of-house areas are cleaned to hotel standards.
  • Assist in maintaining required inventory levels of housekeeping and laundry supplies by ordering needed supplies and amenities monthly or quarterly.
  • Assist with timely monthly and quarterly housekeeping inventories.
  • Protect guest privacy and security by following hotel procedures.
  • Monitor work orders, submit them to Engineering according to hotel procedures, and follow up to ensure completion.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings for room attendants and housemen.
  • Respond to emergencies using information in material safety data sheets and keep those sheets current and readily available.
  • Balance and clear room status nightly, compare the evening housekeeping report with the property management system room-status report, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist in reviewing housekeeping staff hours for payroll compilation and submit them to Accounting on time.
  • Assist in preparing employee schedules according to business forecasts, payroll-budget guidelines, and productivity requirements.
  • Maintain hotel procedures for purchase orders, invoice vouchering, and checkbook accounting.
  • Maintain professional working relationships and promote open communication with managers, employees, and other departments.
  • Ensure implementation of hotel policies and house rules and understand hospitality terminology.
  • Ensure housekeeping staff sign off on Service Standards by Position competencies.
  • Operate pagers and radios efficiently and professionally when communicating with hotel staff and ensure proper radio etiquette in the department.
  • Manage and organize large-turn days, including group check-ins and check-outs.
  • Monitor out-of-order, out-of-service, discrepant, and show rooms.
  • Maintain constant communication with Guest Services.
  • Monitor and act on special requests, including VIPs, special-needs rooms, and connecting rooms.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and provide training on a rotating basis using the hotel's steps for effective training.
  • Maintain and monitor lost-and-found procedures and policies according to hotel standards.
  • Maintain the key-control system for house keys.
  • Ensure department participation in the monthly hotel team meeting.
  • Focus the Housekeeping Department on its contribution to guest service and audit scores.
  • Monitor VIPs, special guests, and special requests.
  • Review the housekeeping logbook and Guest Request log daily.
  • Assist in maintaining an organized, comprehensive filing system for purchases, invoice vouchering, schedules, forecasts, reports, and tracking logs.
  • Use the telephone and computer system to report and verify room status.
  • Record valet laundry for valet cleaners and check incoming laundry at day's end to ensure all items have been returned.
  • Store, secure, and issue supplies properly to meet business demands.
  • Ensure completion of regular maintenance and cleaning projects twice a year.
  • Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
