Your place in our story
The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing Minto’s team-oriented health and safety program. This role will support both the Construction and Property Operations Team with the monitoring and implementation of Minto’s regulatory health and safety policies
Here’s how you’ll contribute
The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible to implement Minto’s health and safety program across assigned construction and multi residential sites in Calgary.
• Monitor, implement, and maintain compliance with Minto and Alberta occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, codes, and safe work procedures across construction and multi residential sites.
• Conduct regular site inspections to verify legislative and corporate compliance, identify hazards, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Maintain audit ready safety documentation, including inspection records, corrective actions, investigation reports, training logs, certifications, and safety observations within the corporate H&S management system (eCompliance).
• Track safety infractions and non conformances, analyze trends, and escalate issues when required.
• Deliver health and safety orientations, toolbox talks, and training programs for employees, contractors, and trades (e.g., WHMIS, Fall Protection, PPE, CPR/First Aid).
• Facilitate Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and trade safety meetings, including preparation and documentation of meeting minutes.
• Manage health and safety equipment and inventory, including PPE, first aid supplies, and emergency response equipment.
• Investigate incidents, injuries, and near misses; complete root cause analyses; implement and monitor corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Maintain accurate incident, injury, and near miss records and analyze data to support hazard elimination and improved risk controls.
• Support injury reporting and return to work processes in collaboration with Human Resources.
• Review subcontractor pre construction safety submissions and weekly safety documentation to ensure compliance.
• Monitor employees and subcontractors for adherence to safety procedures and escalate non compliance as needed.
• Compile and maintain weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual health and safety statistics.
• Promote and reinforce a strong safety first culture across all sites.
What you bring to the team
• Minimum 3–5 years of construction safety experience; experience in multi-residential environments is an asset.
• Working toward or holding NCSO; strong knowledge of OHS regulations.
• Experience in residential low-rise construction environment is considered a strong asset.
• CRSP or Occupational Health and Safety Certificate is considered an asset.
• Post secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field is an asset.
• Standard First Aid; Advanced First Aid, CPR, and Fall Protection certifications are assets.
• Excellent working knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code, Workers’ Compensation Act, National Building and Fire Codes (2023 Alberta Edition), WHMIS 2015, and the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with employees, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
• Ability to remain objective and maintain a factual perspective when addressing inquiries.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with a strong sense of urgency in a dynamic environment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to deliver presentations or safety messages to large groups.
• Collaborative, positive attitude; dependable and adaptable.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
