About the Job

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, or operating electrical test setups for complex hardware; power electronics experience is strongly preferred.
  • Comfort with bench power equipment and measurement methods, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power analyzers, electronic loads, data acquisition systems, and sensors.
  • Ability to design safe test systems for high-power hardware, including interlocks, protection, grounding, and safe operating procedures.
  • Strong debugging instincts and ability to drive root-cause closure with engineering partners.
  • Programming experience in Python, including instrument control or data automation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build electrical reliability test benches for power electronics hardware, including inverters, DC/DC converters, and bidirectional power stages.
  • Specify, procure, and integrate lab equipment, including programmable power supplies, electronic loads, data acquisition systems, sensors, protection hardware, interlocks, and cabling.
  • Own bench system design, including grounding, measurement integrity, EMI-aware instrumentation, protection strategy, safe operating procedures, and maintainability.
  • Contribute to software test infrastructure for system integration and reliability testing, including test architecture, hardware abstraction layers, and result reporting pipelines.
  • Write software tests that interact directly with hardware and firmware over CAN, UART, Modbus, and TCP/IP; debug signal integrity, protocol failures, and firmware edge cases.
  • Write concurrent, fault-tolerant software for the manufacturing test platform, including firmware-flashing, FCT, and EOL stations that run autonomously on the factory floor.
  • Build AI agents that manage test execution across facilities by initiating runs, monitoring anomalies, implementing test script and firmware changes in response to failures, and routing issues to humans.
  • Translate test goals and suspected failure mechanisms into test plans, stress profiles, instrumentation plans, and pass/fail criteria.
  • Execute reliability campaigns, including burn-in, power cycling, thermal stress, and abuse tests, and evolve them as failure mechanisms become clearer.
  • Drive debug loops during test excursions by isolating and reproducing failures, adding instrumentation, and verifying corrective actions eliminate the failure.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with accelerated or environmental stress testing, including HALT/HASS, thermal or humidity cycling, and power cycling.
  • Familiarity with failure mechanisms in power electronics and structured root-cause and corrective-action loops.
  • Experience designing repeatable test cells with drawings and instructions to turn scrappy setups into production-quality ones.

About the Company

Heron Power

Develops solid-state transformers for grid modernization

Heron Power designs power-electronics-based solutions to modernize the electrical grid, emphasizing solid-state transformer technology. Its flagship Heron Link is a modular, megawatt-scale converter that connects directly to medium voltage and uses wide-bandgap semiconductors to regulate voltage and frequency while coordinating multiple energy sources through software. Compared with traditional transformers and early SS-T solutions, it offers higher power density, easier maintenance, and tighter grid stability through software-enabled control. Its goal is to enable a scalable, reliable, all-electric grid for renewables, storage, and data centers, with internal pilots in 2026 and U.S. manufacturing planned.
