Field Excitation Engineer
About the job
- A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or another equivalent engineering discipline, such as Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Controls.
- At least 5 years of experience in Electrical Engineering.
- Working knowledge of computers and various programming languages.
- Ability to travel up to 90% of the time, remain at job sites for extended assignments, and travel on short notice, including internationally.
- Ability to work in non-air-conditioned, high-humidity, dusty or muddy, and noisy environments, and to use required personal protective equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry toolboxes weighing approximately 45 to 75 pounds, including up stairs.
- Availability for extended work hours, shift work, or night work during outages, subject to the stated work/rest limits.
- Ability to travel to job sites by airplane or car and hold a vehicle driver's license.
- Must hold a valid passport and appropriate company-sponsored visa paperwork for international travel; must not be restricted from extended travel to other countries.
- Medical immunizations may be required for foreign travel.
- Start up and commission excitation systems; support engineering and assist with factory testing of products.
- Perform engineering activities associated with the excitation business in the United States, Canada, and the Americas.
- Install electrical equipment on site.
- Test electrical equipment and provide test reports.
- Submit timesheets and expense reports in a timely manner.
- Provide customer training on site and in a classroom.
- Troubleshoot complex problems independently.
- Write and follow procedures.
- Provide feedback to the engineering department.
- Provide phone support to customers.
- Work with service and project managers to provide solutions.
- Work with suppliers, vendors, craft labor, and contractors.
- Follow company safety policy and Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.
- Experience with electrical power systems, including medium-/low-voltage switchgear, high-/medium-/low-voltage transformers, uninterruptible power supply/direct-current systems, generator circuit breakers, generator bus ducts, and emergency power systems.
- Experience with unit and generator auxiliary systems, including start-up frequency converters, automatic voltage regulation, static and brushless excitation systems, synchronization, generator protection, and transformer protection, measuring, and metering.
