About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on PLC engineering and industrial automation experience, including brownfield or legacy-system exposure.
  • Deep PLC hardware and software engineering competence covering legacy controllers, the target ctrlX platform, and fieldbus communication.
  • Ability to design library structures, define block interfaces, and apply software engineering discipline to PLC code.
  • Ability to review AI-generated library code and verify functional equivalence against legacy baselines; deep PLC expertise is required, while AI tool fluency can be developed on the job.
  • Hands-on commissioning of PLC hardware, peripherals, drives, safety relays, and I/O modules, with ability to read electrical drawings and integrate at the hardware level.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
Responsibilities
  • Lead equipment modernization for legacy production equipment and control systems, covering original equipment state, library validation, and hardware commissioning.
  • Understand original equipment state, including mechanical function, electrical schematics, control logic, and underlying process intent, as the baseline for upgrade decisions.
  • Conduct technical assessments and develop modernization roadmaps for legacy equipment, focusing on brownfield feasibility and risk control.
  • Manage brownfield upgrade projects, including scope, schedule, resources, risks, and stakeholder coordination across TEF3, production, and external partners.
  • Track milestones, dependencies, and deliverables against the WP0 roadmap; escalate risks and drive mitigation.
  • Establish test benches and validation environments for legacy components to enable communication-control testing before migration.
  • Operate the AI-assisted conversion tool to generate candidate Nexeed Automation library blocks and control programs from legacy sources.
  • Read, review, and validate generated library code; verify functional equivalence against legacy baselines and ensure correctness before release.
  • Build and standardize reusable PLC libraries for the new platform, accumulating in-house library capability over successive upgrades.
  • Lead hardware commissioning by integrating PLCs, peripherals, drives, safety, and mechanical interfaces; perform factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, and ramp-up support.
  • Troubleshoot field issues across hardware, bus, PLC logic, human-machine interface, manufacturing execution system, and mechanical interaction layers.
  • Document and transfer knowledge to TEF3 colleagues so the team can sustain upgraded systems independently.

About the company

Bosch Home Comfort makes heating, cooling and hot-water equipment for homes, commercial buildings and industrial users. Its portfolio combines electric heat pumps with gas-fired boilers and hybrid systems, giving customers different ways to control building temperatures and supply hot water. The business sells equipment through its brands' sales networks, with products adapted to regional building needs and energy requirements. Its inverter-driven heat pumps adjust compressor output to match demand rather than running constantly at full power. The Bosch business unit was formed through the merger of Bosch and Buderus heating activities in 2004 and is headquartered in Wetzlar, Germany.

What believers are saying

  • Heat-pump researchers gain human-factors experience: Bosch's Wernau team tests how concealed fans change perceived noise.
  • Retrofits expand the addressable market: Bosch's IDS Ultra fits most existing air-to-air systems.
  • Investment funds technical work: February 2026 reporting puts Bosch Home Comfort's 2025 investment near €200 million.

What critics are saying

  • Demand remains cyclical: Bosch's February 2026 report says Germany's heating market shrank 14% in 2025.
  • Sales coordination stays fragmented: Bosch retains separate brand sales contacts and discount schemes.
  • Facilities work extends beyond normal shifts: Bosch's advertised Facility Engineer role requires responding to off-shift emergencies.

What makes Bosch Home Comfort unique

  • Regional identities stay distinct: Bosch retains Buderus and licenses the Hitachi and YORK names for its HVAC portfolio.
  • Acoustics gets specialized testing: Bosch's Wernau heat-pump laboratory measures noise with 19 microphones.
  • Cold-climate heating reaches below freezing: Bosch's IDS Ultra maintains full heating capacity at 5°F.
