Elsevier expands Check Integrity tool to 2,000 journals to screen research papers before publication

Elsevier has expanded its Check Integrity screening tool across nearly 2,000 journals to detect potential ethical issues in research papers before publication. The tool automatically reviews submissions and flags concerns such as unauthorised authorship changes and editorial conflicts of interest for specialist integrity analysts. Following a successful pilot phase, a significant number of flagged issues have led to corrective action, preventing future corrections to the published record. The system allows editors to focus on evaluating credible research whilst improving efficiency in the publishing process. Check Integrity is part of Elsevier's broader investment in technology and expert oversight to protect research integrity. The tool is designed to adapt as new risks emerge and addresses growing pressures from increasing submission volumes.
