Requirements
  • A master’s-level theological degree is required; a Master of Divinity is preferred.
  • Certification as an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education Educator or Associate Association for Clinical Pastoral Education Educator, in good standing, is required.
  • A minimum of three years of clinical training in chaplaincy and Clinical Pastoral Education supervision is required.
  • Ordination or commissioning for ministry by a recognized religious group is required.
  • An ecclesiastical endorsement by a recognized faith tradition must be maintained.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and administer the Clinical Pastoral Education Level I, Level II, and Certified Educator Candidacy programs sponsored by the department under the auspices of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education.
  • Provide clinical pastoral education and professional ministry training in a clinical setting to approximately 11 Chaplain Residents and Interns and one CPE Senior Chaplain Resident.
  • Maintain compliance with Association of Clinical Pastoral Education certification, accreditation, and standards in conjunction with the Director of Pastoral Care.
  • Develop curriculum, supervise students’ clinical work, provide educational opportunities, and evaluate students.
  • Assist the department with pastoral care ministry on hospital units and with liturgical and sacramental needs as required within Catholic traditions and the hospital’s stated values.
  • Interact with CPE students, clinical and administrative leadership, the Mission and Pastoral Care Professional Advisory Committee, the Georgetown University Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Affirmative Action, and local, regional, and national Association of Clinical Pastoral Education certified supervisors.
  • Work with and report to, and collaborate with, the director of the department.
