About the job

Requirements
  • At least five years of experience designing software, with end-to-end ownership.
  • A portfolio demonstrating depth in dense, technical software designed for operators who use it throughout the workday.
  • Ability to observe users doing their work, identify confusion, and improve the design based on those observations.
  • Based in New York City and willing to work in person.
Responsibilities
  • Own every customer-facing surface, including the claims workspace, review and exception flows, agent work and source explanations, and executive reporting.
  • Turn the agent platform into a system customers can work in, with dense information, explicit state, and interfaces that make frequent tasks faster.
  • Design the interaction model for agents doing real work, enabling users to see what an agent did, why it did it, what it read, and where it was unsure, and to agree or intervene.
  • Turn customer problems surfaced by forward-deployed engineers or customers into clear workflows, and drive them with engineering from discovery through delivery while owning usability and measuring whether solutions work for users.
  • Own user experience instrumentation and analysis; combine behavioral data with user research and test whether changes help users complete their work with less effort.
  • Build the design system and the principles behind it.
Desired Qualifications
  • Exposure to insurance, claims, healthcare, or another compliance-heavy operational domain.
  • Experience designing AI products and informed perspectives on citations, confidence, and human-in-the-loop flows.
  • Brand and visual identity work.
  • Early-stage startup experience, especially as the first hire in a function.

About the company

Avallon AI automates complex insurance claims operations by using AI agents and agentic workflows to deliver automated resolutions for carriers and TPAs. The platform plugs into existing client systems and uses adaptable voice AI agents to perform and orchestrate routine and exception tasks across the claims process. Its approach blends industry know-how with technical expertise from Cornell and focuses on agentic workflows, aiming to automate more than simple tasks and to integrate smoothly with US and European carriers’ tech stacks. Its goal is to cut costs, reduce administrative work for adjusters, and boost productivity so they can handle higher-value work and speed up claim resolutions.
