For leisure programs, a combination of experience, education, and/or continual learning in the area of program instruction.
For active programs, certification from a recognized fitness association for fitness instruction, such as YMCA, CanFitPro, RYT-200, Pilates, ZIN, or equivalent.
Responsibilities
Develop, deliver, and facilitate inclusive recreational programs that meet the needs, interests, and abilities of all participants; create program plans and review them each season as needed.
Ensure participant safety and adhere to all health and safety protocols.
Maintain required certifications, complete required and mandatory training, and provide recommendations regarding customer feedback, lesson modifications, and activity enhancements.
Modify class structure or format during program delivery as needed to accommodate participant numbers and needs.
Work collaboratively with Customer Experience and Facility Operations staff.
Report facility or participant concerns to the Recreation Coordinator.
Keep accurate attendance records.
Desired Qualifications
Experience working with adults and older adults aged 55 and over is an asset.
A portfolio or demonstration of skills may be requested for leisure programs.
For sport program instructors, coaching certification, workshops, clinics, or other related training are considered an asset.
For sport program instructors, demonstrated experience or representative playing experience in sports is considered an asset.

Position Overview
The Adult Recreation Services Unit is currently accepting applications for new and returning staff for the following positions:
Program Leader/Instructor, RCC
Specialized Program Instructor, RCC
We are looking for those who can facilitate, lead and/or instruct seasonal and/or drop-in recreational programs for Adults and Adults 55+ in Burlington in a variety of program areas including:
Active Programs
Group Fitness Programs: i.e. Pilates, Zumba, Tai Chi, Yoga, seated fitness, resistance training, cardiovascular endurance training, flexibility and mobility focused training.
Sport Programs: i.e. Ability to facilitate and organize basketball, volleyball, soccer and racquet sports activities.
Leisure Programs
Art and Craft Programs: i.e. fibre arts, jewelry making
Continual Learning Programs: i.e. history or special interest lectures, skill development, language instruction, culinary lectures
Dance Programs: i.e. hip hop, jazz, tap, ballet
Game programs: i.e. bridge, euchre
Languages: i.e. German, Mandarin
Music: i.e. Guitar, Ukulele
Hours worked are dependent upon scheduled programs’ registrations and may vary from 0-27.5 hours per week.
Program Instructors are supported by the Coordinator, Recreation Services in program development, scheduling, feedback and material/equipment needs and report to the Supervisor, Recreation Services.
