Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in legal studies, criminal justice, business or public administration, political science, or a related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment, unless relevant experience and/or education is substituted.
  • Alternatively, three years with Pima County in a paralegal or related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
  • A valid driver's license at the time of application and a valid Arizona driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Successful completion of required pre-employment background checks, including verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history.
  • Ability to meet any position-specific background investigation requirements for access to County Attorney and court facilities, records, and communication systems.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate staff to ensure effective and efficient legal support operations.
  • Manage daily workflow and caseloads to maintain operational efficiency and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborate with leadership in strategic planning to improve division performance and service delivery.
  • Ensure accurate preparation and processing of legal documents, including complaints, motions, and disclosures, in support of attorneys.
  • Oversee and train staff in the proper use of document management systems and electronic filing procedures across various courts.
  • Research and compile daily, weekly, and monthly performance metrics and reports for internal use and decision-making.
  • Schedule and conduct job interviews, performance evaluations, and employee development plans.
  • Train staff in the use of legal case management systems to ensure consistent and accurate documentation.
  • Coordinate file closeouts and ensure compliance with legal and procedural requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of court procedures and legal office operations to support accurate staff guidance.
  • Complete a 39-month Department of Transportation motor vehicle record review for suitability to operate County vehicles, when applicable.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience developing or implementing procedures, workflow improvements, staff training, or other operational improvements.
  • Experience coordinating staff assignments, workflow, and deadlines in a high-volume work environment.
  • At least two years of experience supervising, leading, or training staff in a legal, criminal justice, court, or similar professional environment.
  • Experience working in a prosecutor's office, public defense office, court, law enforcement agency, or other legal environment.
  • Experience with criminal case management systems, electronic court filing systems, and/or legal document processing.
