AI power demand climbs: Eaton showcases complete power management solutions at energy exhibition to strengthen supply resilience

AI power demand climbs: Eaton showcases complete power management solutions at energy exhibition to strengthen supply resilience Formosa Plastics Group adopts Eaton EnergyAware grid-interactive uninterruptible power supply * 2026.10.19 * 11:47 * Commercial Times Li Shui-lien As power demand from AI data centers and the semiconductor industry grows rapidly, companies are paying increasing attention to power costs, supply stability, and energy dispatch. Eaton, a global intelligent power management company, participated in Taiwan International Smart Energy Week, showcasing complete power management solutions covering medium-voltage power distribution, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), energy storage, and circuit protection. It also shared the results of deploying EnergyAware grid-interactive UPS systems at large sites of enterprises such as Formosa Plastics Group. AI and high-tech power demand heats up as power cost and dispatch pressure emerge together The continued expansion of AI and high-tech manufacturing is bringing higher-density and faster-changing power demand. Taiwan Power Company recently proposed that, in the future, dedicated lines from power plants could be considered to supply AI data centers directly, with operators managing them autonomously. This reflects the rising requirements of large AI computing facilities for power supply capacity and stability. Overseas markets face similar pressures; in the United States this year, legislation was promoted to require large data centers to bear the cost of new grid infrastructure. In the face of rapid load changes brought by AI computing, energy storage systems can help smooth loads, improve power quality, and operate in coordination with UPS, on-site generation, and the grid. Such demand is also extending to high-tech manufacturing and large industrial sites. Eaton's EnergyAware grid-interactive UPS extends the UPS's original backup function to energy storage and energy management, dispatching power according to load, battery status, and supply conditions. Eaton also assists customers in the early stage of projects by reviewing upstream and downstream loads, outage risks, and backup requirements, and evaluating configurations among UPS, energy storage, generators, and on-site equipment, so that equipment selection returns to actual power demand and investment returns. Lin Yu-pei, general manager of Eaton Electrical Taiwan and the Philippines, said: "Enterprises' demand for power systems has extended from simple backup to energy storage and overall power usage management, and the market is moving from conceptual evaluation to actual deployment. Eaton will combine equipment, system integration, and consulting services to help customers plan power architectures that better meet actual needs." Actual project sites verify EnergyAware: balancing uninterruptible power and energy dispatch Since 2024, Eaton has cooperated with the petrochemical industry and third-party partner "Net Zero Energy Technology" to develop application sites, integrating energy storage systems, solar photovoltaics, charging piles, and other generation, storage, and consumption equipment, with UPS as the power dispatch node. While participating in energy management, it retains the core functions of uninterruptible power and power resilience. The equipment has currently accumulated about one year of actual operation experience. In addition to behind-the-meter energy applications, it has also conducted multiple front-of-meter service tests, continuously accumulating operation and test data under Taiwan's actual power environment. In addition, because large manufacturing sites of Formosa Plastics Group have high requirements for power supply stability, they not only need to avoid power abnormalities affecting equipment, production lines, and processes, but also hope that existing UPS systems can serve not only as outage backup but also meet energy storage and subsequent energy dispatch needs. By adopting Eaton's EnergyAware grid-interactive UPS, UPS, batteries, and on-site loads can be incorporated into overall power management, with visibility into remaining power, backup time, and connection conditions with generators and the utility grid. For example, Nanya Technology's data center has adopted a complete UPS integrated solution, and Formosa Advanced Technologies' large MW-level site has also completed on-site application testing of EnergyAware, enabling effective power demand regulation. Liu Hui-chi, general manager of Formosa Smart Energy, said: "Large manufacturing sites have high requirements for power supply stability and backup capability. In addition to ensuring the continued operation of key equipment, they also hope to meet energy storage and subsequent energy dispatch needs, making power resource allocation more flexible. Adopting Eaton EnergyAware allows batteries originally used mainly for emergency backup to further participate in energy dispatch management and achieve self-generation and self-consumption." Eaton strengthens AI high-density power and distribution layout; RTEFE product line makes first public appearance Eaton will also exhibit multiple power solutions, including an 800V DC power supply architecture MV SST, the full UPS series, lithium batteries, and circuit protection, supporting AI data centers, high-tech factories, and other high-density power sites. The 9395XR and 93PR UPS can meet the backup needs of large data centers, enterprise computer rooms, and critical equipment; the UPS can be used with its own Eaton-branded 93Li lithium batteries. The MV SST uses an 800V DC power supply architecture to connect medium-voltage distribution to terminal loads, reducing power conversion stages and building a more efficient power supply system. Another exhibition highlight this year is the first public appearance of the RTEFE product line. RTEFE is one of Eaton's Cooper Power series products and has been rooted in the Taiwan market since 1979. It currently has a production line at Eaton's Xizhi plant. This exhibition showcases distribution transformer protection devices, cable termination connectors, and fuse products, with applications covering power companies, enterprise factories, and heavy electrical sites, further expanding Eaton's product layout in distribution transformer protection. In circuit protection, the Moeller series DC circuit breakers can be used in energy storage and high-voltage DC equipment at 1000Vdc/1500Vdc, while miniature circuit breakers comply with international standards such as IEC and UL, providing equipment circuit protection and safety. The Bussmann fuse series is widely used in electric vehicles, energy storage systems, semiconductors, and data centers, and can quickly and accurately cut off fault currents, reducing fault energy and thermal damage. It covers DC fuses up to 4000A/DC 2000V, meeting the high-power circuit protection needs of new energy and high-tech industries. Taiwan International Smart Energy Week 2026 has successfully concluded. Eaton's offerings extend from medium-voltage distribution and backup and energy storage all the way to equipment-end protection. Its comprehensive solutions help enterprises configure power systems according to actual loads and operational needs, improving supply resilience and dispatch flexibility.
