About the job

Requirements
  • Use PyTorch for custom architectures, training loops, and distributed training.
  • Understand the reasons behind machine-learning losses and architectures, not only how to use them.
  • Design and run independent experiments.
  • Maintain rigor and reproducibility in clinically significant machine-learning work.
  • Be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Develop foundation models that read entire computed tomography studies rather than individual slices.

  • Build and calibrate a model that detects multiple urgent findings simultaneously for safe radiologist use.
  • Train and evaluate models at large scale.
  • Take research models through FDA submissions, hospital deployments, and clinical use.
  • Own models and experiments end to end, from initial idea through the operating point selected for deployment.
  • Train models on large-scale real-world computed tomography data paired with radiology reports.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with medical imaging, three-dimensional or volumetric data.
  • Experience with vision-language models or self-supervised learning.
  • Experience with Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine, computed tomography, or radiology.
  • A Doctor of Philosophy degree or research publications.

About the company

a2z Radiology AI builds AI software that analyzes abdomen-pelvis CT scans for adults 22 and older to triage findings that require urgent attention. The product uses two FDA-cleared devices and a defined list of 17 findings to automatically flag critical cases, helping radiology teams prioritize work in their imaging workflow. It is sold to imaging providers on a B2B basis, with demos, documentation, and public positioning that explains how the triage alerts fit into clinical routines. Compared with competitors, the company focuses on FDA-cleared technologies and a specific set of findings and workflows, aiming to provide clear, actionable prioritization signals. The goal is to speed up the identification and prioritization of urgent CT findings so patients receive faster care and radiology teams work more efficiently.

What believers are saying

  • September 21, 2026 FDA clearance expanded coverage to 10 additional acute findings.
  • Khosla Ventures and SeaX Ventures back the company after the $4.5 million seed round.
  • Hiring for commercial, integration, and research roles signals active 2026 rollout and customer pursuit.

What critics are saying

  • July 2026 headcount stayed about 12, so scaling sales and support remains thin.
  • The report drafter stays research-only, limiting upsell beyond cleared triage today.
  • Aidoc, Qure.ai, and GE HealthCare pressure a2z on broader radiology workflow coverage.

What makes a2z Radiology AI unique

  • FDA-cleared abdomen-pelvis CT triage spans 17 findings across two devices.
  • Validated across 12 clinical sites with a 675-case cohort and workflow integration.
  • Cloud and on-premises deployment fit hospital IT, with routing into existing PACS workflows.

a2z Radiology AI Raises $4.5 Million to Scale CT Interpretation

a2z Radiology AI raises $4.5 million to scale CT interpretation. a2z Radiology AI, developer of AI systems for comprehensive medical imaging interpretation, today announced a $4.5M seed round with participation from Khosla Ventures and SeaX Ventures. The funding will accelerate commercial deployment of the company's FDA-cleared triage system and continued R&D toward broader imaging interpretation capabilities. The investment comes on the heels of two milestones: FDA clearance for a2z-Unified-Triage, the first system to simultaneously triage seven urgent conditions on abdomen-pelvis CT scans in the U.S. market, and the company's debut at RSNA 2025, where it presented the first prospective study evaluating AI-assisted preliminary report drafting for abdomen-pelvis CT. That study demonstrated that AI assistance reduced reporting time by 17.8%, increased radiologist confidence by 14.8%, and decreased mental demand by 22.4% - while improving detection of findings without increasing false positives. The results offer early evidence that comprehensive AI can meaningfully improve both accuracy and efficiency, addressing longstanding questions about the real-world value of radiology AI. "Radiology is one of the areas that will benefit the most from AI, ensuring no disease goes undetected," said Vinod Khosla of Khosla Ventures. "While others focus on single conditions, a2z is able to evaluate imaging for a broad range of issues, bringing us closer to the comprehensive capabilities of a real-life radiologist." "Radiology is central to modern medicine, but delays can slow down care when timely answers are essential," said Dr. Kid Parchariyanon, Founder and Managing Partner of SeaX Ventures. "a2z is meeting this challenge with technology that brings expert-level support directly to clinicians. We're proud to support a2z as they build the tools that make a meaningful difference for providers and patients worldwide." With imaging demand outpacing the radiology workforce, clinicians face growing wait times for reads that guide critical decisions. Abdomen-pelvis CT alone accounts for over 20 million exams annually in the U.S. - the highest-volume CT category. a2z's approach differs from existing AI solutions that address single conditions: the company is building toward systems that can evaluate imaging comprehensively, the way radiologists actually work. "The response at RSNA validated what we've been building - AI that considers everything from A to Z in each study," said Pranav Rajpurkar, PhD, co-founder of a2z Radiology AI and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. "This funding lets us keep pushing on R&D while bringing our cleared technology to the care teams who need it." "We're building toward comprehensive interpretation of complex imaging studies at a level that simply hasn't existed before," said Samir Rajpurkar, co-founder and CEO. The funding will support partnerships with health systems, continued product development, and commercial rollout in 2026.

SeaX Ventures leads $1.5M pre-seed round for a2z Radiology AI's real-time CT scan interpretation

SeaX Ventures has led a $1.5 million pre-seed round for a2z Radiology AI, an FDA-approved medical imaging startup that provides immediate, radiologist-level preliminary interpretations of abdominal-pelvis CT scans. Founded in 2024 by Harvard Medical School associate professor Dr Pranav Rajpurkar and technology executive Samir Rajpurkar, a2z addresses delays in radiology caused by surging imaging volumes and workforce constraints. The platform delivers rapid, comprehensive CT analysis that integrates into existing clinical workflows, providing broad diagnostic insights rather than flagging single conditions. The funding will support product development and provider partnerships ahead of a2z's planned commercial rollout in 2026. SeaX Ventures is a $100 million global deep-tech venture capital fund focused on breakthrough technologies with transformational economic and environmental potential.
