  • A medical degree and 2 years of direct or internship experience are required.
  • A current medical license in Michigan is required.
  • A current DEA and DPS Certificate of Registration is required.
  • Must maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and proper telephone etiquette.
  • Must perform in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Must be able to sustain alertness and concentration during computer or detailed work, which occupies 40 to 70 percent of the time.
  • Must be able to stand or walk considerably, regularly lift objects weighing 20 pounds or less, assist with heavier tasks such as moving patients, and assume positions or motions that may cause minor strain or fatigue.
Responsibilities
  • Provide medical patient care by interviewing, examining, and treating clinical patients to meet their medical needs.
  • Educate patients on wellness, prevention, and early detection by providing materials and resources to patients and families.
  • Determine referrals required based on examination and patient needs.
  • Determine the urgency of follow-up and referral or consultation appointments.
  • Exercise final medical judgment in all healthcare issues.
  • Prescribe medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients.
  • Order studies, tests, and ancillary services.
  • Document all services in patient medical records.
  • Regularly review long-term cases that require ongoing medical attention.
  • Consult with the Medical Director and other professionals on staff as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education.
  • Participate in process improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by hospital or clinic requirements.
  • Oversee mid-level medical staff as assigned and nursing clinical staff.
  • Assist in resolving patient complaints, requests, and inquiries.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient information according to federal guidelines and regulations.
  • Provide customer service in a manner reflective of the organization’s mission, values, and customer service standards.
