Requirements
  • Basic ability to read and write.
  • Six months of experience.
  • A pre-employment physical examination is required.
  • The employee must be able to work in slippery or uneven surfaces and wet conditions, regularly handle cleaning chemicals and solvents, and lift or carry up to 25 pounds.
  • The employee must maintain physical presence at the workplace and report to or remain at work to assist with University emergencies during closures.
Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain assigned areas by dusting, waxing, polishing, washing windows, walls, partitions, and woodwork, removing trash and recyclables, and sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming floors.
  • Thoroughly clean and disinfect bathrooms, including toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, floors, dispensers, and garbage receptacles.
  • Safely operate custodial equipment, including upright and backpack vacuum cleaners, buffing machines, scrubbers, wet/dry vacuums, upholstery cleaners, carpet shampooers, extractors, and floor machines.
  • Keep building entrances and walkways free of ice, snow, and other debris up to 25 feet from entrances.
  • Move and lift furniture and heavy objects up to 25 pounds, and lock and unlock doors.
  • Report structural, facility, and equipment damage to Work Control or the appropriate supervisor for repair or replacement work orders.
  • Maintain, use, and store cleaning supplies in custodial carts and closets, following required chemical-use standards.
  • Complete timecards, white cards, key logs, safety sheets, supply requests, and other required documentation.
  • Attend required training and meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Report to or remain at work during University emergencies and closures when required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience in custodial, janitorial, or facilities maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, equipment operation, and chemical-handling procedures.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain compliance with cleaning standards.
