About the company

SpaceX builds and launches reusable rockets and spacecraft for NASA, the military, and companies, and it runs Starlink, a satellite internet service for homes and businesses. In 2020, its Dragon capsule became the first privately built spacecraft to carry astronauts to the International Space Station. Its Falcon 9 rocket lands its first stage so the booster can fly again, which cuts launch costs, while Starlink beams internet from low-orbit satellites to small dishes for a monthly fee. SpaceX also owns xAI, maker of the Grok chatbot and owner of the social network X, and is building Starship, a fully reusable rocket meant to carry people to the Moon and Mars. Elon Musk founded SpaceX in 2002, and it is based in Starbase, Texas.

What believers are saying

  • Starlink demand keeps compounding: subscribers doubled to 12 million in the year to June 2026.
  • Room to grow: SpaceX listed 2,693 open roles in October 2026, over a third of them for Starlink.
  • Rivals rent its AI supercomputers: Claude maker Anthropic agreed in May 2026 to pay SpaceX $1.25 billion a month.

What critics are saying

  • Stock grants swing hard: shares closed between $108 and $211 in the four months after the June 2026 IPO.
  • Expect long weeks: 1,724 of SpaceX's 2,693 job posts in October 2026 mention extended hours and weekend work.
  • AI spending outruns sales: SpaceX put $15.8 billion into AI data centers in the June 2026 quarter, double its revenue.

What makes SpaceX unique

  • SpaceX is the world's busiest launcher by far: its 165 orbital launches in 2025 were nearly double China's total.
  • Starlink carries the profits: it earned $1.7 billion in the June 2026 quarter, while rockets and AI lost $1.8 billion.
  • Elon Musk has the final say: super-voting shares give him about 82% of shareholder votes after the June 2026 IPO.

SpaceX stock could hit $175 by end of 2027, but Tesla merger adds uncertainty

SpaceX shares trade at $134, just below the $135 IPO price, four months after the company's stock market debut. That comes despite strong results: third-quarter revenue rose 161% year over year to $14.6 billion, and net income hit $4.4 billion, against a $1.1 billion loss a year earlier. Analysts expect $180.37 billion in revenue and $4.03 earnings per share next year. The stock trades at about 33.3x projected 2027 earnings. One analyst sees the price reaching $233 by the end of 2027 if growth and valuation hold. If the forward price-to-earnings ratio falls to 25, the price would be $175.25. Risks include slower growth, Starship delays, rising competition, and a possible Tesla acquisition, which Elon Musk has said could be a good idea. No deal has been announced.

GE Aerospace beats SpaceX for long-term investors despite SpaceX's $85.7B IPO

A Motley Fool comparison of GE Aerospace and SpaceX favours GE Aerospace for long-term investors, citing its lower valuation and steady cash generation. GE Aerospace posted fiscal 2025 revenue of about $45.9 billion, up roughly 18.5%, with net income of about $8.7 billion and free cash flow of about $7.3 billion. Its forward price-to-earnings ratio is 37.0x. Analysts expect 2026 revenue of $52.3 billion. SpaceX reported 2025 revenue of about $18.7 billion, up more than 33.2%, but a net loss of around $4.9 billion and free cash flow of negative $14.0 billion. Its forward price-to-earnings ratio is 709.1x. Analysts project 2026 sales of $48.9 billion and net income of $2.8 billion. The author notes SpaceX has no monopoly in any of its businesses, despite Starlink's more than 10 million subscribers.

Musk caps Grok Bot usage over "unsustainably high" costs despite $431M AI profit

Grok Bot users woke up over Halloween weekend to find their weekly usage limits maxed out, even if they had not used the agentic AI overnight. Some reported on X that usage jumped from as low as 50% to 100%. SpaceX chief executive officer Elon Musk confirmed on Sunday that this was not a glitch. "The cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue," he wrote in reply to a user. Grok Bot has been a bright spot for the newly public SpaceX, which said last month that AI makes up 52% of its income. Its "Super Intelligence" division made a $431 million profit, despite $1.2 billion in one-time costs tied to its acquisition of Cursor. Musk has not said how subscribers' limits will change.

Varda, a $1.6B startup, says one SpaceX flight could make medicine for millions

A single spaceflight could yield enough medicine for millions of patients, Michael Reilly, chief strategy officer of Varda Space Industries, told Benzinga. The $1.6 billion startup makes drug crystals in orbit and returns them to Earth, where small seed quantities can be used to produce much larger amounts. Varda launches automated pharmaceutical factories on SpaceX rockets. Near-weightlessness lets drug ingredients form crystals in ways that are hard to achieve on Earth, which could help drugs dissolve more easily. Reilly said even a mission costing a couple of million dollars could be spread across millions of patients. Varda has secured Falcon 9 reservations for the next couple of years, though SpaceX uses much of its own launch capacity. The company is working with United Therapeutics on formulations for rare pulmonary diseases, with a joint mission planned for 2027. Reilly expects space-enabled medicines to reach human testing within five years.

Democratic House could hit SpaceX's Golden Dome funds but lift NASA's, leaving its $1.83T stock at $135

A Democratic House win could cut SpaceX's missile-defence money but restore some of its NASA funding, leaving the net effect roughly neutral. Betting markets give Democrats about a 94% chance of taking the House on Tuesday, in SpaceX's first election as a public company. The US government made up about 21% of 2025 sales, roughly $3.9 billion, of $18.7 billion total. Golden Dome is most exposed: SpaceX won a $4.16 billion award in May 2026, and the Pentagon asked for about $17.5 billion for the project in 2027. The White House wants to cut NASA's budget 23%, which Congress could reverse. The bigger risk is oversight. Democrats have promised subpoenas over Elon Musk's federal deals, and hearings would now land on shareholders. SpaceX is worth $1.83 trillion, and its shares sit at the $135 IPO price.
