About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in a hybrid analytics/data science role, such as analytics consulting, product data science, or applied statistics, with a track record of directly informing product decisions.
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong grounding in statistics and experimentation, including hypothesis testing, causal inference, and experiment design, and the ability to distinguish a statistically significant result from a meaningful one.
  • Fluency in SQL and at least one scripting or statistical language, Python or R, and sufficient familiarity with data engineering fundamentals—including pipelines, transformations, and data modeling—to build what is needed and partner effectively with engineers.
  • Ability to develop, validate, and communicate the tradeoffs of statistical and machine learning models, and to recognize when a simpler model or well-designed experiment is preferable to a complex model.
  • Use of AI tools in day-to-day work for exploratory analysis, documentation, and routine analytics, with judgment about when outputs require scrutiny before informing product decisions.
  • Ability to identify the underlying question, structure ambiguous problems, and deliver actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Sound judgment about balancing rigor and speed while maintaining measurement integrity.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with engineering teams and product and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Partner day to day with Home Improvement Product Managers as an embedded data science and analytics resource, turning open-ended product questions into structured analyses and clear recommendations.
  • Design, run, and interpret A/B and quasi-experimental tests across the borrower funnel, from offer presentment through origination, applying rigor to power, sample ratio mismatch, novelty effects, and interaction risk across concurrent tests.
  • Define and own the metrics framework for the Home Improvement product line, including north-star and guardrail metrics, funnel and cohort definitions, and instrumentation required for reliable measurement.
  • Work with engineering to ensure event tracking and logging are complete, accurate, and well-documented at the point of instrumentation.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines and models, including SQL/dbt transformations and feature pipelines, to support analyses and collaborate with data engineering.
  • Develop and validate statistical and machine learning models for product decisions, including response/propensity, funnel drop-off and conversion, segmentation, and early-stage risk or pricing signals in partnership with credit strategy; account for fairness, explainability, and lending regulatory context.
  • Use large language model and agentic tooling to accelerate exploratory analysis, requirements gathering, and documentation, validating automated outputs with human judgment before they inform decisions.
  • Communicate findings through clear write-ups, visualizations, and recommendations tied to specific product or roadmap decisions rather than only descriptive dashboards.
  • Contribute to PI planning and roadmap discussions by sizing opportunities, identifying measurement risk in proposed initiatives, and helping the team commit to evaluable work.
  • Monitor product and experiment performance after launch and proactively surface anomalies, regressions, or opportunities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Background in fintech, consumer lending, or home improvement/contractor financing.
  • Experience with customer data platform tools, event instrumentation tools such as Segment, mParticle, or Amplitude, or experimentation platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with credit or risk modeling, pricing strategy, or marketing decisioning.
  • Experience with dbt, Airflow, or similar data pipeline/orchestration tools.
  • Prior experience embedded directly with product teams in an agile/scrum environment.
