Requirements
  • Current AHPRA nursing registration, with a minimum of 5+ years of postgraduate experience, or completion of a Health Information Management degree or Clinical Coding course.
  • Experience working in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and implement change and influence clinical staff across all levels.
  • Ability to demonstrate and facilitate excellent working relationships with clinicians.
  • Strong broad-based clinical knowledge and understanding of the pathology and physiology of disease processes.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with standard office equipment.
  • Highly developed written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills to liaise and consult with a range of staffing groups.
  • Demonstrated experience in the role's knowledge requirements for an appropriate period.
  • Recent senior clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting, or casemix management or discharge planning experience in acute casemix settings.
  • Recent private health sector experience and knowledge of current funding payment models and contractual arrangements in a medium to large organisation.
  • Working knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of, clinical coding documentation requirements.
  • Annual influenza vaccination where required under Epworth policy.
  • Satisfactory National Police Check and, where required, a valid employee Working with Children Check.
Responsibilities
  • Identify opportunities to improve clinical documentation.
  • Develop relationships with clinicians and nursing staff to influence and drive cultural change.
  • Work collaboratively with the Health Information Services team and act as a conduit between clinicians and Health Information Services to drive efficiencies and improvements in the clinical coding process.
  • Monitor and analyse data to identify opportunities.
  • Produce reports on outcomes resulting from clinical documentation improvement activities.
  • Support and facilitate organisation-wide understanding of clinical documentation standards.
  • Improve information capture for patient safety, quality of care, inter-clinician communication, and accurate hospital reimbursement.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with clinical care, Health Fund, Health Information Services, and departmental or practice management staff.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of a postgraduate nursing course.
  • Completion of a Clinical Documentation Improvement course.
  • Knowledge of private hospital funding models.
  • Understanding of ICD-10-AM coding and clinical documentation standards.
