Counterpart launches lawyers professional liability insurance with limits up to $5M

Counterpart has launched Lawyers Professional Liability insurance, its tenth specialty programme and sixth new product since July 2025. The coverage targets law firms with up to 100 lawyers, offering primary and excess limits up to $5 million. The expansion follows Counterpart's $50 million Series C funding announced earlier this year. The company has achieved nearly five-times year-over-year premium growth in professional liability and maintained 100% average annual growth across all programmes since 2020. Counterpart's platform enables new coverage launches in under three months, compared to over a year for traditional carriers. The LPL product includes Affirmative AI Coverage, addressing the growing use of artificial intelligence in legal work. The coverage consolidates previously separate placements into a single product, combining lawyers professional liability with technology liability, media liability, and misconduct coverage.

Limit adds Cowbell and Counterpart API access for management liability insurance

Limit, a wholesale broker specialising in commercial lines insurance, has launched API-enabled access to Cowbell and Counterpart, expanding its management liability offering. The integration allows brokers to submit a single application, receive multiple quotes, compare options and bind coverage across both markets within their existing workflow. Counterpart focuses on management and professional liability for small businesses with AI-powered underwriting, whilst Cowbell offers a data-driven approach to business risk assessment. The platform standardises data capture and transmission to carriers, enabling faster turnaround times and easier binding. Limit partners with over 55 carriers and provides instant quotes for cyber, tech E&O, miscellaneous E&O and management liability coverage. The launch reflects a broader industry shift towards API-enabled distribution, where insurance products are embedded directly into broker workflows.

SpaceX investors back AI insurance startup Counterpart with $50M Series C, bringing total funding to $106M

Counterpart, a specialty insurance company, has raised $50 million in a Series C round led by Valor Equity Partners, bringing total funding to $106 million. The company provides professional liability, employment practices liability and directors and officers insurance for small businesses. The funding comes as employment-related litigation risks surge. The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission recovered $528 million through pre-litigation enforcement in FY 2025, its highest recovery in 60 years. AI adoption is increasing exposure, with 76% of small business owners using AI but only 14% fully integrating it. Despite growing risks, fewer than 33% of small businesses carry relevant insurance policies. Counterpart has processed over 250,000 applications and written more than 35,000 policies, reporting nearly 175% premium growth in 2025.
