About the company

Expedia Group runs online travel brands such as Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo, where people book hotels, vacation homes, flights, and rental cars, and it supplies the same travel to other companies. Its Expedia site was one of the first online travel agencies, letting people compare and book flights and hotels on the web without calling a travel agent. Travelers search and pay through its apps and websites, while partners such as airlines and banks plug its hotel and flight listings into their own booking sites. Expedia earns commissions and markups on bookings and sells advertising to hotels and other travel companies. It began in 1996 as a division of Microsoft and is based in Seattle, Washington.

What believers are saying

  • Selling through other companies drives growth: B2B bookings rose 21% in Q2 2026, versus 8% at Expedia's own sites.
  • Stock grants beat its biggest rival's: Expedia shares rose 27% in the year to October 2026, while Booking's fell 22%.
  • AI skills are in demand: Expedia's San Jose hub had about 100 of 300 seats open in August 2026.

What critics are saying

  • AI agents threaten its middleman role: shares fell 7% on September 23, 2026, after Meta's Muse showed direct hotel booking.
  • Cuts keep coming: Expedia laid off 162 Seattle-area staff in January 2026 and filed in September to cut 58 more.
  • Booking books nearly three times as many stays: 325 million room nights in Q2 2026, versus Expedia's 111.5 million.

What makes Expedia Group unique

  • Tens of thousands of companies sell its trips: Expedia's B2B arm supplies 75,000 partners and 200,000 travel advisors.
  • Half the company builds software: about 8,000 of Expedia's 16,000 staff, including 5,000 engineers, work in product and technology.
  • Vrbo, its vacation-home brand, rents only whole homes: unlike Airbnb, it bans listings with living space shared with hosts.

Tes appoints new technology chief.

Tes appoints new technology chief. Global education technology company Tes, headquartered in London, has appointed Camila Kill as chief technology officer to lead its technology strategy and support the development of its digital platforms. Camila joins following almost a decade at Expedia Group, most recently as vice-president of engineering, where she led teams using data, machine learning and artificial intelligence to develop digital experiences. She brings 20 years' experience across the technology sector, having also held roles at TUI, Legal & General and Jaguar. In her new role, Camila will oversee Tes's technology strategy, with a focus on strengthening its data capabilities, simplifying its technology systems and identifying opportunities to integrate AI and machine learning. A key priority will be accelerating Tes360, the company's initiative to connect technology and data across schools and academy trusts. The platform aims to simplify administrative processes, improve access to information and give teachers and school leaders more time to focus on pupils. Camila said: "What attracted me to Tes was the opportunity to use technology to make a genuine difference to education. "Schools already have a wealth of technology and valuable information, but there is a huge opportunity to make it work better together. "I've spent much of my career looking at how you bring together products, data and engineering at scale to create experiences that feel simpler and more useful. "I want to bring that same thinking to Tes: using technology to remove complexity, uncover better insights and solve real problems for schools. "Tes360 gives us the opportunity to do that across the whole school environment. "And with AI and machine learning advancing so rapidly, we have an opportunity to rethink what education technology can do - not technology for its own sake, but innovation that gives teachers and leaders time back and helps them support pupils more effectively." Rod Williams, chief executive of Tes, added: "Camila brings a specialised combination of deep engineering expertise and experience of delivering technology and innovation at enormous scale. "She understands how to connect complex products and data behind the scenes while focusing on the user experience. "That is exactly the kind of thinking we want to bring to education. "Tes360 is about moving beyond fragmented technology towards a more connected approach, and Camila will play a major role in further shaping that vision and determining what comes next. "This appointment is an important step in our ambition to build technology that genuinely changes how schools operate and supports teachers and pupils, particularly in areas such as safeguarding." EasyJet holidays expands city breaks range via Expedia tie-in.

EasyJet holidays expands city breaks range via Expedia tie-in. EasyJet holidays is expanding its city breaks range via a collaboration with Expedia Group B2B. Customers booking a flight on easyJet.com can now add a hotel from thousands of additional options across European cities destinations, turning their flight and hotel into a package. The new proposition means customers can combine their preferred flights and accommodation, alongside optional luggage and transfer add-ons, into one booking. Every city break package is fully covered by Abta and Atol protection. The partnership comes as the operator released the findings of comparative research showing that booking a package is cheaper than arranging the same trips independently, saving an average of £328 and up to £378. The operator said: "Trying to build a getaway piece-by-piece often leads to unexpected expenses. "Rather than securing a bargain, travellers who booked their flights and accommodation separately ended up spending up to £378 more than package bookers. "On top of higher standalone hotel rates, holidaymakers admit that additional costs across airport transfers (17%) and booking fees (15%), meant they spent more than expected when booking travel separately." EasyJet holidays head of cities Irene Roberts said: "City breaks are all about making the most of a few days away, and we want to make that as easy and affordable as possible. "Our new partnership with Expedia Group B2B means that when customers book their easyJet flights, they can now choose to add a hotel from thousands of options across Europe's best-loved cities, while getting the value, convenience and protection that comes with booking a package. "And with our research showing holidaymakers could save up to £378 compared to booking their flights and hotel separately, that's more money to spend enjoying the city when they get there."

Expedia Group B2B expands full-trip platform with Rapid Activities API and Tiqets beta in TAAP.

Expedia Group B2B expands full-trip platform with Rapid Activities API and Tiqets beta in TAAP. Select technology partners can now test end-to-end activity booking through Rapid, while a limited group of UK travel agencies gains curated Tiqets inventory inside Expedia TAAP. Expedia Group is extending its Rapid API ecosystem into activities and experiences, with the new Rapid Activities API now in beta for selected partners. - Credit: Expedia Group Key takeaways. * Rapid Activities API is launching in beta for selected Expedia Group B2B partners, allowing customized activity discovery, shopping, booking and management through the Rapid ecosystem. * Select UK-based Expedia TAAP agencies now have access to a curated Tiqets activities beta designed to simplify discovery and recommendations for travelers. * Expedia Group says broader availability for Rapid Activities API is planned for early 2027, while access during the beta remains limited to selected partners. * The expansion supports Expedia Group B2B's broader push to let partners combine lodging, flights, cars, activities and other trip elements through fewer booking platforms and integrations. (NEWS) SEATTLE, Washington, United States, 2026-Oct-01 - /Travel PR News/ - Expedia Group B2B is extending its push toward end-to-end trip retailing by adding activities and experiences more directly into both its technology stack and travel-agent platform. The company's latest product milestones introduce a beta version of Rapid Activities API for selected partners and a curated Tiqets activities beta for a limited group of UK agencies using Expedia TAAP. The moves take Expedia Group's B2B proposition further beyond lodging, giving technology partners and travel advisors new ways to add attractions, museums, tours and other experiences to the same booking journey as accommodation, air and other trip components. Rapid Activities API moves into beta. The new Rapid Activities API is now in beta with selected partners. Expedia Group says the product enables B2B companies to build customized activity discovery, shopping, booking and post-booking experiences on top of its curated inventory, with Tiqets adding depth in attractions and museums. Rather than requiring partners to send travelers to a separate marketplace, the API is designed to let them control their own front-end experience while using Expedia Group's underlying inventory, content, pricing, availability and booking capabilities. Expedia says broader availability is planned for early 2027, while current access remains restricted to qualified beta participants and a waitlist. Stephen Cheng, vice president of Expedia Group B2B, linked the product expansion to growing demand for consolidated trip planning. Expedia Group's Full Trip Planning research found that 77% of travelers surveyed were likely to book multiple parts of their next trip on the same platform, reinforcing the commercial case for adding activities alongside flights, stays, cars and protection products. Global Hotel Card is among the beta partners. CEO Peter Friend said activity booking is increasingly moving earlier in the planning process, with some travelers choosing an experience before arranging the flight and hotel around it. Tiqets activities arrive inside Expedia TAAP for selected UK agencies. Expedia Group is also bringing curated Tiqets inventory into Expedia TAAP, its Travel Agent Affiliate Program, through a separate UK beta. A limited group of participating agencies can now search and book selected activities within the agent platform, with the interface organized to help advisors identify relevant options more quickly. Beta participant Flights Guru said the feature is intended to reduce the time agents spend searching for suitable experiences after arranging flights or accommodation. Commercial Manager Liam Brophy said the aim is to give staff more time to focus on travelers while making complementary experience recommendations easier to surface. The integration follows Expedia Group's acquisition of Tiqets, which closed in February 2026. In an earlier B2B update, Expedia Group said the acquisition would strengthen its activities business with curated attractions, museums and local experiences while adding Tiqets' expertise to its broader partner ecosystem. From lodging API to a broader full-trip platform. Rapid API began as a lodging-focused product but has been expanding into additional lines of business. Expedia Group now positions the ecosystem as a modular way for partners to assemble more of the trip in one place, including accommodation, air, cars, activities and other services. The activities launch is significant because experiences have historically been more fragmented than accommodation or air distribution. Bringing curated inventory into the same API environment can reduce the number of separate integrations partners need while giving them more control over how activities are merchandised alongside the rest of a trip. For travel agencies, the TAAP beta tackles the same issue from a different angle: instead of integrating an API, advisors receive a ready-made booking environment in which selected Tiqets products are surfaced alongside the other travel components they already sell through Expedia Group. The two initiatives remain limited in scope for now. Rapid Activities API is still in early access, and Tiqets activities in TAAP are available only to selected UK agencies during the beta phase. Expedia Group has not announced a wider TAAP rollout timetable in the material released with the update.

Qantas taps Expedia Group B2B for 2027 Hotels and holidays platform overhaul.

Qantas taps Expedia Group B2B for 2027 Hotels and holidays platform overhaul. The new technology stack will bring hotel and package booking, Qantas Points, trip management, machine-learning recommendations and expanded flight bundling into a more integrated digital experience. Expedia Group B2B technology on display at Explore 2026. The company's B2B platform will power the next Qantas Hotels & Holidays and Jetstar Holidays booking experience. Key takeaways. * Expedia Group B2B will power the end-to-end technology behind Qantas Hotels & Holidays and Jetstar Holidays under a new strategic partnership with Qantas Loyalty. * The upgraded platform is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2027, with build and integration work already underway. * Planned features include deeper Qantas App integration, improved self-service, machine-learning recommendations and holiday packages that can include premium seating and partner codeshare flights. * Qantas Hotels, Holidays and Tours generated $1.6 billion in booking transaction value in FY2026, underlining the commercial importance of the platform within Qantas Loyalty. (NEWS) SYDNEY, New South Wales, Australia, 2026-Oct-01 - /Travel PR News/ - Qantas Loyalty is preparing a major rebuild of its hotel and holiday booking business, selecting Expedia Group to provide the technology behind Qantas Hotels & Holidays and Jetstar Holidays from the first half of 2027. The partnership shifts the focus from a conventional accommodation booking engine toward a more integrated travel platform. Expedia Group B2B will power the end-to-end experience, giving customers one place to search and book hotels and holiday packages, earn and redeem Qantas Points and manage their trips. Build and integration work is already underway, according to the September 30 partnership announcement, with launch targeted for the first half of 2027. A wider digital role for Hotels & Holidays. The new platform will be built on Expedia Group B2B's Composable Agentic Template, a technology framework designed to let partners assemble travel functionality around their own customer experience. For Qantas, the planned changes include deeper integration into the Qantas App and more self-service options for travellers managing bookings. Machine learning will also be used to generate property and holiday recommendations, while package customers are expected to gain more flexibility in how they combine accommodation with flights. Qantas says the new system will support packages that include premium cabin seating and flights operated by codeshare partners. That makes the project broader than a hotel-platform refresh. The aim is to bring more parts of the journey into a single branded experience while keeping Qantas Points at the centre of how frequent flyers earn and redeem across travel products. A significant part of the Qantas Loyalty business. Hotels and holidays already represent a substantial part of Qantas Loyalty's non-flight activity. In its FY2026 results, Qantas reported $1.6 billion in total transaction value across Hotels, Holidays and Tours bookings, up 3 per cent from the previous year. The same results showed Qantas Frequent Flyer membership reaching 18.9 million, with points redemption rising across the broader loyalty portfolio. A more tightly integrated Hotels & Holidays platform therefore gives Qantas another way to connect flight activity, accommodation bookings and points use within the same customer relationship. Travellers can currently book accommodation through Qantas Hotels and packages through Qantas Holidays. The existing services will continue while the replacement platform is developed. Expedia brings a broader B2B technology stack. For Expedia Group, the agreement adds Qantas to a B2B business that increasingly supplies travel inventory and infrastructure behind other companies' branded customer experiences. Expedia Group B2B has been expanding beyond accommodation into a wider set of trip components, including flights, activities, ground transport, payments and servicing. An Expedia Group B2B update from Explore 2026 outlined the company's push toward connected-trip technology, expanded APIs and AI-supported partner tools. Those capabilities align closely with the Qantas project's emphasis on personalisation, integrated trip management and faster deployment of future features. Jayne Davey, Qantas Loyalty Executive Manager, Business to Consumer, said the partnership is intended to give Qantas access to technology that can support more customised search and booking while providing a foundation for continued product development. Carolina Cabero, SVP Sales at Expedia Group B2B, said the platform is being designed to connect supply, pricing, payments, loyalty and digital experiences within one system while still allowing Qantas to shape the customer-facing product around its own members and partners. Hotel suppliers are part of the technology shift. The agreement also has implications for accommodation partners. Qantas says the new system will introduce more seamless connectivity options for hotel suppliers and give the business access to Expedia Group B2B's continuing technology releases rather than relying on a more static platform. For customers, the most visible changes will come when the new booking experience launches in 2027. For Qantas Loyalty, however, the larger strategic move is happening behind the scenes: consolidating more of the Hotels & Holidays journey onto a technology platform designed to combine accommodation, packages, flights, loyalty and servicing within one digital ecosystem.
