Construction Engineer Intern - Field Engineer, Civil Engineering
The role follows a Monday–Thursday, 6:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. schedule, with alternate schedules possible.
About the job
- A bachelor's degree in the specified engineering discipline and at least 5 years of practical experience in construction field engineering, or an associate's degree in the specified engineering discipline and 5–10 years of practical experience in construction engineering, or a high school diploma and 10 or more years of practical experience in construction engineering.
- A thorough understanding of construction engineering principles and the ability to apply them to field conditions.
- Experience preparing computer-based construction work execution plans or work packages, including job-specific hazards analyses, using Asset Suite, Assisted Hazard Analysis, or an equivalent system.
- Working knowledge of discipline-specific codes and standards.
- Experience generating work execution plans.
- Experience generating job hazards analyses.
- Experience performing material take-offs and procurement.
- U.S. citizenship.
- A valid driver's license.
- Valid registration and proof of insurance for personal vehicles operated by the candidate.
- Review design output and vendor documents, conduct field walkdowns with design engineers, verify constructability and code compliance, compare field conditions with design output, verify material availability, submit constructability comments, track comments to resolution, and support design review meetings.
- Develop and expedite bills of materials, track material delivery, coordinate delivery to the field, and verify received materials against ordered materials.
- Conduct walkdowns with craft supervision and support groups, develop installation sequences and work instructions, generate inspection and test records, coordinate with quality control, identify layout and survey needs, generate hazards analyses, support hazard-analysis review meetings, and generate or support job-specific permits.
- Attend and chair execution-plan review meetings, develop approval routing lists, coordinate and expedite work-package approvals, disposition comments, assemble approved work execution plans, and update plan status in the Savannah River Site work-control passport system.
- Lead pre-job briefings, perform task-ready walkdowns, verify installed quantities, coordinate daily field support, expedite materials, coordinate material testing, coordinate shop fabrication, perform field inspections, and resolve field installation issues.
- Generate design-completion notices, ensure accurate work-execution-plan status, close required permits, and close work-execution-plan documentation.
- Coordinate with design agencies, inspect and verify materials, equipment, and workmanship, assure compliance with drawings, specifications, and codes, coordinate with quality control, participate in turnover activities, and support equipment and system startup and functional checkout.
